New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
It's a great version. Weird, but classic.
All right, so Mary Martin is creepy.
Esp. with added chicken, it would make an excellent lunch! You could just dump a half a cup of beans in bottom of a microwave-safe dish, place the quesadilla on top, put whatever else you want and then cover it up. Nuke it when you want it.
I can't wait to try it out on Steve...He's gonna love it.
the newest version of Pan is the best, I thought, although I went 'erk!' at the end credits when they dedicated it to Dodi Fayed...what the hey?! He's been dead for YEARs! Plus Jason Isaacs, while wonderful as a villain, gives me a slight cringe as well, remembering some of the disparaging comments he has made about gun-happy Americans and how stupid we all are. I think he makes a better Lucius Malfoy. But the story itself was really nice...made me almost nostalgic for that age...*almost*.
Bet they'd make good chili, too. Yum!
I saw a stage version once when I was very young, but I don't remember if it was Mary Martin or Sandy Duncan--I think probably Sandy Duncan. I'd like to see the Mary Martin version and see what I think of it now that I'm older. When I was younger I just found it vaguely unsettling that a woman was playing a boy :) I bet those 80s commercials on that tape would be pretty funny--I have some late 80s shows on tape and the commercials crack me up :)
I didn't know any of the political views of the actors, for which I'm grateful now that you describe them--probably would've distracted me from enjoying the film. As it was I liked the film enough that I went out and got the book and watched the old Disney version again after that :)
We had what my Granny called a "hippy wedding". We had a Guitar Mass, I wore flowers in my hair, and a dress I made myself; a very simple long sheath dress with a lace caplet. We had a short reception afterwards, with cake and punch in the Church Hall, then we all went to Mama's for the FOOD. The aunts made ham, roast beef, potato salad, etc, and that's where the beer and stuff was!
It was an inexpensive wedding, but we had a great time!
They don't know nothin about no armadillo cakes up here! ;o)
Actually, I'd never even HEARD of a 'Groom's Cake', until some friends got married when we were in college. She was from Connecticut, and her parents brought a 'Groom's Cake' with them down to MS. It was a dense spice cake and it was scrumptious!
Clare and I started watchin it last night, but only got as far as just after the Battle of the Pellenor Fields. Will watch the rest tonight. We had watched the movie About a Boy before that. Have you seen that movie? It is VEY good! You could review it, but Jr. may like it.
My parents aren't from around here...but I still don't really know what armadillo cake is.
Groom's cake from what I've heard is the spice cake you mentioned. But I dunno if that's common!
I'm getting really excited about meeting up with you! It'll be like a little bit of Entmoot. And gosh knows I need some o' that!
Armadillo cake...
To make it you will need:
1 four wheel drive truck
1 Texas county road
1 armadillo, full grown
It's just a little Iron! - Good for ya!
OK - I am gonna go weed-wack. see ya later!
Get 'em, Gidget! Leave none alive!
Heeeyyyy... anybody home?? [sip]
Well... traffic is all snarled up right on schedule. Gonna hide from traffic tonight.
Oooh, didn't he, though? He looked like Haldir's evil brother. I don't like the Malfoys, but if Draco's going to grow up like his father, no wonder the fangirls have the hots.
One great thing about the "Harry Potter" movies is how good the adult actors are. Alan Rickman has been superb. And I think the new director is going to do a good job. That opens in a week. I'm taking all the siblings opening night. Maybe in costume.
Yeah...I'm around listening to the Cubs try to blow a game.
Maybe they could get some tips from our Mariners. They've gotten pretty good at blowing games this year. Season just started and fans around here are already talking about "next year".
