Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So how are Abigail and the elf-boy doing these days? And are y'all getting enough sleep?

And the heat in the building isn't on because we had warm days awhile back. I'm sitting here freezing...I swear, my fingers are stiff!

Oops. Waited a second only for someone to post, didn't happen and then went to jelly making! Sorry Rosie!

I'm makin' my favorite Peach Habanero Jelly. Got fresh peaches out of one of my uncle's orchards on my way home on Monday. Didn't get enough to make but maybe 4 or 5 cups of jelly but, they are nice, they are fresh, they are juicy! :-)

I can send you heat today. We've got the humid kind right now. I have got to say, as much as I complain about this area in which I now live it is wonderful to have so many days without this humidity! Wonderful enough that I can stand it for 10 or so days a year! :-)

Oh my goodness! I am still that country bumpkin who refuses to turn on the A/C so I've got all my windows open and I dug out a bikini to wear in the kitchen while I heat it up with all my burners going to make jelly! It ain't a pretty sight... but I do live alone! LOL

He was supposed to keep his mouth shut.... and next thing we know... he has spilled it about Boromir, and sworn an oath to the wrong party!

And managed to charm the socks off the both of them...at least in the book!!! I really think Gandalf had Pippin's 'career' all planned out before they even set out from Hobbiton. I have this image in my mind of Paladin calling for a meeting with Gandalf and saying "look here, old chap, I know you used to take my grandpa out on trips and it always caused a big ruckus in our family, but see, my son, Peregrin, is the most coddled babe in the shire, what with three big sisters who dote on him, and I really think he needs some..well, pushing along, don't you know? He spends all his time drinking and visiting and having fun, but he's my only heir, Gandalf, and the Tooks need someone...*serious*. Can you take him somewhere where he can learn what it means to be a thain?"

And Gandalf just smiles and nods.

~snickers~ It was good! - Just surprising! One of my favorite jams is apricot pineapple, so seeing something the same color set up an expectation!

I like hot salsas that look like salsas! :~D

Peach habanero sounds Nummy!!! I love jalapeno jelly...VERY good to serve over a block of cream cheese, or use as a glaze for chickens. Am going to try my hand at agarita jelly this summer. I've never done jellies before. MIL went up to Seguin this past weekend to pick agaritas (a kind of wild currant) and I am all aflutter to have some.

I love apricots ~almost~ as much as peaches! That sounds very good!

At the old house the most prolific trees in my orchard were my pear trees. I know you don't like pears too much so you don't have to hear this as though I'm talking to you. :-) But, with all the work I did to make sure I *used* everything I grew I had to scramble sometimes to find new pear recipes. My absolute all time favorite was given to me by my uncle Lynn's mom. It's a preserve-like thing with pears, apricots, some pineapple and coconut! Seems like maybe pecans too... can't remember exactly. But, I have LOST the recipe!!! When I had all those pears given to me last fall I searched and searched for that and couldn't find it. I made a mental note to get it from Uncle Lynn's mom again... but if you recall she had a stroke that weekend when I got back from Entmoot and she is not remembering things too well herself yet so I still don't have it. Aunt Cheryl and I talked about me trying to get it again last week... but with Mrs.T. recovering from the stroke we didn't was her to get frustrated again over looking for it. We are thinkin' we'll turn it up one of these days. I wanna make some more of that stuff.

I think if I can come up with enough peaches this summer I will have to send you some. A lot of people don't like chilis in their jelly, but if you do - this one is the best! Of course, you're hearing that from a woman who will eat peaches till she's nearly sick!
