Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Ramius reports that he is having a "heap of trouble" posting on FR. Not sure why, he can read, but it hangs up when he tries to post. He may try later from home.

Ramius reports that he is having a "heap of trouble" posting on FR. I thought he was getting ready for wedding moot and finding a really good hiding place for his car!

Actually, I loved the beacons!I love the music when the camera is flying over the mountains as each beacon is lit in turn!

I know why he's coming here...he wants friendly territory. Our area isn't good for Republicans.Green Bay is usually Republican--Joseph McCarthy was from around here, it's pretty conservative. But I figure he's stopping here on his way to Milwaukee, which is more liberal. At any rate, please feel free to keep him there, we don't want him, LOL!

I like the sense that these guys have been standing ready for oh-so-many years, keeping everything prepared for the lighting of the beacons, and then still be so very prepared to light them promptly. There was nary a glitch in the whole sequence and the magnificent view of the scenes going from one mountain top to the next was incredible. Funny that such an almost insignificant part of the whole thing should affect me the way it does.

Any interest in an inpromptu NE-moot in Utica?Sounds like fun, but we're doing house remodel stuff this weekend. SSQ is taking vacation days on Friday and Tuesday, so we'll have nice long stretch to work. I'll break in the middle ( on Sunday) to take Clare, Joseph, and a couple of their friends up to VT where they'll be attending a homeschool summer camp for the week. Then it's back to the grindstone! ;o)
Since I'm driving up, I won't have to go back to get them on the following Friday. One of the other Mamas will do the picking up!

Hey there... well, we'll see how long this lasts. Seems to be working now.
I stopped on the way to the 'partment and got my copy of the ROTK. Watching it now, but I don't know how far I'll get.
I agree about the lighting of the fires sequence. Really gets to me too. don't know zactly why.

The beacon scene was one of my favorite parts. BTW I was talking to my friend from Tibet about that scene once and he said they have a relay system like that there, too, which I thought was cool.

I can't explain that either. But, it really *affects* me. And I mean that in a wholly good way. It is a little thing in the whole scheme of the story... but so absolutely awe-inspiring to me! :-)

I've been having heap big networking trouble with the trusty laptop for the last week or so.
At the office today it was getting goofy too. Couldn't track it down. Didn't make sense. But then the problem up and went away, so I couldn't chase it anymore. Then it got wacky at the waterin' hole. We'll see if it stays together here at the bachpad.
