Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yeah, it's Fairlee. They have to be there at about 3pm and with the orientation and all, I probably wouldn't leave there until after 4. Would y'all be in that vicinity around that time? I don't know the area, or where y'all would be coming from. We could get supper or a cup of coffee or something!
My plan is to come up I-89, then get on to I-91 close to where we met the last time, then head north to Fairlee.

Fairlee is only about an hour from here, or just over that. Tryin' to think of what sort of restaurants they have there! If nothing else, there's a diner, I'm pretty sure. And a lot of times those places have very good (if plain) food for not too much.
That's the exit we take to go to that campground where we've played open mics in the past, BTW.

Grrrr...there ARE lots of campgrounds (and inexpensive hotels, for that matter) in the Utica area. Probably mostly booked at this point, though. I wish this coulda worked out, but I just can't see doing it now.
I can take time off during June, but I know that's not an option for you, more's the pity. Guess I gotta save my pennies for a visit to CO, eh? ;-)
And for Entmoot 2! Though...part of the reason the kids want to do a road trip this summer is to see if it would be at all feasible to drive to Entmoot 2, since it would save a LOT and mean more of us could go.

Heh, you just tell me when you'll be flying in and I'll be at the airport waiting for you. :-) Can you take off any time, or do you get fall/spring breaks off?
I hafta look up dates and such for my breaks. I don't imagine it'll go over too well to take off in the middle of the semester.... but maybe I'll be able to persuade everyone to arrange things around me! (kidding). At this point, I don't know what I'll be doing next summer...

After the beginning of the semester, I can take time off. The hardest thing will be saving up rather than getting the time. But I can schedule around your times off, for the most part.

I think my fall break is over Thanksgiving... dunno if I'll get home, but I'm sure that time isn't good for you. The spring break is in the middle of March, and as long as it doesn't conflict with Easter it'd probably work well. Long time off, of course.
Or, depending on Entmoot 2 arrangements, that might be too close to Entmoot. We can worry about it later. Let's just try not to think of a good plan three days before it should be put into action next time.

But spontaneity is GREAT if it can work out! Some of those plans are the most fun!

But spontaneity is GREAT if it can work out! I dunno. Look what happened the Themla and Louise.
(why did I feel the need to ping Ruthy and WN to this post?)

Spontaneity works really well with friends who are in the next town. It doesn't work over long distances.
Though, I don't actually have any weekend plans and I could just start driving Friday afternoon...

Why, what happened to Thelma and Louise?
It's ok that I haven't seen that movie, right?

*GASP!* If you do get a chance, I hope you enjoy it. I am truly obsessed now.
I was going to wait until getting the EE because there will be extra Pippin stuff there, but I am starting to feel I miss the little guy again. You know what I REALLY miss about ROTK? Is the comeraderie that Gimli had with the hobbits!!! I wanted to see that so badly...and I think Jackson shortchanged us there.
I have yet to understand why they sent Merry out into the battle with the rest when he shoud have been in the House of Healing hooking Eowyn up with Faramir. But then, I hope the EE will explain that.
But I thought the funniest and fondest scenes were of Gimli torn between joy and fear and aggravation over Merry and Pippin...I could just see the two of them grinning from ear to ear while Gimli fumed. jackson blew that part.

Oh yeah, it's okay that you've never seen it. I've never watched it all the way thru. But in the end, when they're being chased by the cops, Susan Sarandon (aack, ptui!) and Geena Davis hold hands and drive off a cliff together.
That scene is almost as beautiful as the Jack Frost scene in Titanic.

M&C is on my list of things I need to see. Just don't see that many movies. Maybe this summer.

Ugh, Titanic. Not going to watch that just to see DiCaprio die. My life's too short to watch dumb movies like that.
