Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

They're bringing their "domestic partners" to the picnic, so I'm absolutely dreading having to explain that to Becky. I'm hoping I can just steer clear of them.

Just be sure to say, and loud enough to be overheard: "No, Becky, don't worry, I won't let the freaks hurt you".

Who says these things can't be fun?

I will be seen as a "non-team-player" if I skip out on these events from the get-go.

I used to get that a lot at one of the places I worked. I worked 30 miles from home and got pretty tired of all that driving so never did want to drive back into town to do stuff with *work* people! One of my neighbors worked at the same place and thought the same way. Therefore, we were both accused of not being team players.

We got even. Our boss was lecturing us at a department meeting for not showing up at stuff etc. We volunteered to plan the next picnic. We planned it at a place closer to our houses but 15 miles in the other direction from work. hehehe.... only 7 people were willing to drive that far on their Saturday off! We were *even*!!!

They had plenty of alcohol at the last party (the one I wanted to go to!), but since this is a "family" picnic, I'm almost 100% positive that they will avoid booze.

Or at least, they won't pay for it if you want to have a drink.

I'm not a big drinker anyway, so I won't miss it. But it's so much better to go to an evening party where you can leave after a couple of hours because of the time, but a daytime event just lasts and lasts and lasts.....

Just thinking that the alcohol might dull the pain a bit.

LMAO! I wish!!

Sad to say, I'd probably get canned for "insensitivity".

"Was that the very first night, right after Sam brought the Entmoot banner?"

I don't know, Rosie, I'm getting mixed up. But thanks for remembering. 2J said I had to make an Entmoot banner, so I complied.

Yeah, Entmoot was fun, Jeanne thought so too.

Thinkin' of you!

Aunt Cheryl and I are in the den watching TV. She's sitting behind me on the couch. She just *screamed* "Ah sh** KIIIM!!! He's on me!!!" I jumped out of my chair to see who the he!! she was talking about.

It was one of your Freds who'd landed on her leg! I kilt him. He's flushed now. But, Aunt Cheryl is very traumatized! EEEEEK

Is there any way you could get the kids to be "scared" of the freaks and just cry the whole time? Then you'd have to take them home.

I'll have both of my girls with me, so I couldn't even drink if I wanted to. Between having to watch them in the crowds and driving to the picnic and back - just no room for drinking.

"They're bringing their "domestic partners" to the picnic..."

What happens when they go up to Massachusetts and get married, do you think? Are they "man and wife" or husband and husband or what, I wonder?

You have a very wonderful mind, OT!

Becky may just be able to pull that one off, but I'll have to wait until the timing's just right. *wink*

I wouldn't / couldn't do that!!

In all honesty, I'll probably end up watching Daniel at the picnic for her so she and he can get to know each other better.

Now THAT was genious!

We thought so! Matter of fact, that neighbor and I had lunch together Tuesday and laughed about it again! He doesn't work at that place anymore either but we still get invited to a lot of stuff. We go sometimes to see some of the friends we still have there. We did make good friends there. But, we were thinkin' maybe we should offer to have 'em a picnic again! *evil laugh*

That neighbor is one of those guy friends I can call when I need company for something. He's only a 3 or 4 years older than Jill but a good friend and was a great neighbor. When I first moved to Wichita Falls, before the first school semester even started we had a campus picnic. I felt awkward going because I didn't know *anybody* yet so Tommy drove all the way up there to go to it with me. Now, *that* is a decent friend!
