Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Okay, we'll give you that one. He was an actor. Not been seen much lately he was 84 (I think).

Mainly known for his TV role in the 70s(?) as "Felix Unger" on "The Odd Couple" with Jack Klugman. Two divorced men sharing an apartment. Based on the play and the movie that starred Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.

Please don't tell me you don't know who they were...

Well, my hair has a mind of it's own. I never know whether I'm gonna have ringlet curls, frizzed out shrub or nicely straight hair. Somehow, people seem to think I "fix" it one way or the other. LOL... I just wash.. brush and take whatever I get every day. And I don't ever know which it's gonna be. It has a lot to do with humidity and I can't control that.

Yeah, a new vocabulary word is needed. Is there a word that means "many traditions contributing to a unified culture"? Perhaps "American" is the word we need. I think different traditions are cool, but I don't think they should supplant American culture. For me, it's a matter of loyalty and allegience. I'm suspicious and scornful of anyone who puts their traditions ahead of being an American citizen.

MD governor is a Republican.

He's a squishy RINO who is doing suprisingly well in this cesspool of liberalism.

Matthau and Lemmon? Sure I know of them. Old guys in a lot of movies I haven't seen.

My knowledge of 70s tv shows is scant. Except for Star Trek.

Nothing wrong with letting them keep on thinking that! :)

Dont' know. I was up at 0500, was showered, primped, dressed, fed, and packed for the day by 0630. (I know that's not spectacular time- but hey, I'm a civilian). And I've been sitting around waiting since then. 'course I've been freeping so it's been a fun wait...

Recognize the guy on the right? This is some kind of reunion shot with Jack Kluhman at a more recent age than when they did the show together.

That could be kinda spooky!--like that one scene in Temple of Doom :) I've heard there's bats around here but never seen 'em, I figure on account'a they're sleepin' when I'm out.

Japanese film ping:

http://www.rialtopictures.com/godzilla.html

From a review in U.S. News & World Report: For the first time! In American theaters! It's the original, uncut version of . . . Godzilla !!! The black-and-white 1954 movie is a classic in Japan, but American audiences got stuck with a cheesy, dubbed version with 40 minutes edited out and American actor Raymond Burr gratuitously edited in. Now the original has finally made it to the United States, with a new print and subtitles, and it's a surprisingly good movie. Sure, Godzilla is played by a dude in a rubber suit, but there's also great music, a love triangle, an antinuclear message that was watered down in the previous U.S. version. The monster's rampage across Tokyo, breathing radiation and stomping destruction through a city that had been firebombed less than a decade earlier, is genuinely heart stopping. You can find theaters showing Godzilla and view the trailer at Rialtopictures.com . -Helen Fields
