Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You're a great sport!

It's not the principle of the thing; it's the money!

Oh, you said "Barchetta", not "Baretta" :)

Dang... I guess we'll have to go straight to the "carrying the boiling cauldron on your forearms" lesson. Bummer for you. :-)

I remember that one from a classically bad Black Belt Theater movie which also featured the "jump out of a 6-foot pit full of dung repeatedly until you develop the power to defy gravity" lesson :) I'm still workin' on that one--waitin' 'til I master catching the fly with the chopsticks first :)

Nice... the fly-in-the-chopsticks thing is pretty cool, but it takes alot of practice. The worst part is that you have to hang out for a long time in a place with really a lot of flies. Rotsaruck. :-)

Hey 'nad! How was the birthday celebrations today?

Theboy sure is a fine young man. I'm glad to know we've got him coming up in our next generations. :-)

By the way, why is there a rock band called Rush? Or is it one guy?

Guess I'm a good little conservative, cuz I hear "Rush" and think "Limbaugh". But it gets me some odd looks in conversation.

Another thing on the optical topic:

Down at Captain's Nautical Supplies, they are now manufacturing their own telescope, and it is a thing to behold. They make the whole thing. Solid brass, and machined brass at that. None of that extruded crap here. They grind the optics. They make the tripod. The whole thing is hand made by probably the best optics people on the west coast.

[sigh]

Check this out:

Really nice stuff. But dang... over $3K and my eyes just sorta glaze over. :-)

The part I'm working on there is spitting the bullet back out afterwords--still trying to get my grouping consistent. . .

I don't know how Rush came up with their name. But you might actually like Rush--they have a lot of SF imagery on some of their albums.

[sigh] I have no words to say to that. Mash here: http:\\www.rush.com.

It's three guys. They're from Canada. They make music that can only be played at eleven on your volume knob.

That pretty much sums it up.

Another hard thing about catching flies that way is that it's really difficult to get the chopsticks around the baseball.
