Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

BTW... went down to Captain's Nautical Supplies [Lord help me, but I lOVE that store] to have them look at the 20x80 Celestron binoculars that were broken.
Well... there's good news, and there's good news.
The good news is that they can be fixed, and I've left them there to be fixed by pretty much the only guy on the west coast that does this stuff.
The other good news is that his backlog is about two months at least and this forced me to buy a new set of big-eyes for the beach. OK... not forced... but strongly encouraged.
The other good news is that we now have a set of *really* *really* nice Fujinon big-eyes for the tripod. I've always wished I'd gone with Fujinon in the first place. They are a couple of orders of magnitude better optics than the Celestron set. Very bright and clear.

That comes on after Starsky and Hutch, right? Oh, you said "Barchetta", not "Baretta" :)

Ah, yes... optics...
I would hope that you'd back me up on my Fujinon fetish. Sure, I'd like to have Swarovski or Zeiss, but I can't afford it. But in my mind, Fujinon is right up there with Nikon or maybe a little better.
The guy at Captain's Nautical (name is Bill Hall) is the same guy I used to deal with back when I was a Coastie. A couple of times I brought all of the binocs from the cutter all the way from Oregon up to Captain's to have Bill Hall work his magic on them. It takes special facilities to re-align the optics and then nitrogen-fill and re-seal them. Some of our older 10x50 binocs were WW2 vintage, but he did a wonderful job on them. They're probably still in service.
The guy is a craftsman, and I'm sure he's forgotten more about optics than I will ever know. So... I was an easy sell. I also got a new set of 10x50's today. I wanted to spend a little more but he pointed me to a set of Minolta (of all things) that were brighter and clearer than others that were two or three times the price. I'm not one to argue with an expert. :-)
