Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I do, Becky. Keep em' comming.
Happy Trails.
Buck.
Haven't rode yet. Seems Okie decided once was enough and he wasn't going in the trailer. Took over two hours and that's after we walked him a couple of miles and lunged him hard twice.
And a curb chain and lunge whip:'(
Did you get him in?
Did you take him for a ride in the trailor?
Becky
Oh yeah (but we had to have help:'(. We took him and her to circle K. One of the workers came up about an hour in to it and said "that horse needs a curb chain and whipped". We told him we took the curb chain off because he cut his mouth and wanted to work with him a little longer. He said ok and left. He came back an hour later and said "yall tired yet?" We both humbly nodded. He said "you ready to beat him" We nodded again. You gonna let me put the curb chain on him?" I looked at his mouth. He'll live and handed him the curb chain. It took about 15 more minutes. He wasn't beat but popped firmly several times on his ass. He finally went in straight load beside her.
He did so good on the trails though. He followed right behind her and didn't even give the farm equipment another glance. She went alert twice but just looked and went on. Once was another horse laying in the high grass. She spotted it befor I did. The second was a kid in a swimming pull by a mobile home. They both wanted back in but we walked them back and forth on the rode a few times first. She did try to kick a colt that came up to her. I got on to her and popped her but I hear later that's what mares do. That high kick was buck looking. I don't want her doing this while I'm riding . I got a little more hx. She was born and raised by a young girl until 4 yrs ago and had spent the last 4 years on a dude ranch.
I'm sorry you had trouble with loading him, but it doesn't surprise me. I think this horse will always have issues with trailers unless you stay on top of him and let him know you mean business. He isn't scared, he's stubborn about it.
Becky
I'm not following the plotline very well... You were at a Circle K loading him? - the convenience store? Did you trailer him both there and unload them or ?? And where were you riding that a colt could run up?
Any reason why you did them both straight? Did you have the divider open? or both of them in the back? I'd have a warning if you had them both in the back.
I've been out mowing the lawn.... still no sign of the brush hawg dude.
I'm sorry, nothing worse then waiting on someone.
Becky
~drums fingers on desk~
He going in every day til he goes in good. I know he's sturborn but he maybe be scared too. He gets drenched.
I'm sorry so much too tell and I made a run on paragraph instead of short posts. We started the day walking them on a trail we planned on riding later today. Coming back , on the stable grounds a colt ran up to her like he wanted to nurse maybe? After this we worked on getting him in the trailer. We tried to exhaust him but he still fought. We finally got them both in and took him to the convience store.
I'd be breaking something or cussing someone:)
We're having trouble keeping this d#%* web TV connected. We have always had it set to disconnect if another call came in, like call waiting. But for the last few weeks now if a call comes in and disconnects it we have to unplug the phone line to it and replug before it will connect. A window will show on the screen that says the phone line seems to be in use, even when it is not. You computer people have any clue what we could check to fix it. Today it has just been disconnecting even when no call is coming in and we have to unplug and replug everytime. (Which means I have to get up out of my chair arrrrrr:).
Becky
We put her in first to see if he would follow easier. She wouldn't slant. She kept turning back straight. He did but coming back he was trying to turn and pushing into her. She let him.
What time is it where you are? I keep forgetting how many hours behind me you are. It's 5:24 here.
Sorry. I thought you left and I was reading about those Russian kids and didn't know yall were here.
Mares can be funny. I was behind an appy mare and she kept kicking out at my horse, so I kept a good two lengths behind her at all times. My friend Lane calls it
"appy-tude" :-)
I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, the webtv is acting up, and Mack is on his computer.
