The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

centaur, Cindy: How'd your ride go?

Hair: The mowers there yet?

I'm back from riding Trash. It is hot here. May not get to Rusty till this evening. I really don't want to push him hard in this heat. Be easy on him one last summer, not stress his system now since summers about over. Planning on getting him in tip top shape this winter, then if he has problems next year, I'll have to get rid of him. I can't keep one I've got to baby thru a summer. But I really think he'll make it now.

Me too. I really like that horse, but it's very frustrating to have one with a problem like this.

Well, I hope he's fine from here on out.... but there's a paddock here in a cooler climate that he might do just fine in!

You know if it wouldn't be so hard to get him there, he would probably already be there:). It would probably be the best thing for him even if he seems OK here. I imagine it's a problem that if he stays here could rear it's ugly head at anytime. I have a feeling he won't ever be "cured" of being prone to heat stress, just in remission, and living here the chances of relapse will be more apt.

This may sound cruel, but next summer, once he's in good shape, I plan on really pushing him hard to see how he holds up. It's something I don't want to spend worry time "wondering" if I do such and such will it cause problems. I don't want to wonder, I want to know.

I know the way you'd actually do that you won't be cruel. You just want to test him in real work.

Buyin' a horse from you to be delivered seems to be the only way we are ever gonna get to ride together ;~D

There you go:)

My cousin was telling me of a place, I think it was Wyoming, that was a great place to ride horses. I wish I could remember.... His daughter loves horses, so their vacations were spent somewhere where she could ride, mom could lay by a pool, and dad could go fishing. What was the name of the place......Sounded wonderful.

This is some resort I think. I just e=mailed my dad. He knew the place Steve was talking about. The name sounded familiar to me too. They have stables you can rent horses at. Sounded like you could bring your own too.

Well, we will keep that in mind! I need a truck, horse trailer and another horse first, but in no particular order!
