The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I found this on one of the webb sites in the TETRA stuff I got yesterday. I'm hoping I'll be ready to go to a TR here in Oct.

But the ponies have to stand in it! Or can you leave him loose in your trailer?

I guess if it was really coming down I could put them in the trailer, but I'd never put them in loose. They stand out in the rain here, so I don't have a problem with them standing at a ride in the rain.

I think she's working under a trainer at that stable.
Oh ok! Well that's good.

Nope I meant the fist pic. That is a good shot of the effort put in by the grey.

The theory is to enjoy electives. However, in practice that's not always the case :-) Because of my science schedule, I can't take any electives that I enjoy. Just ones that fit into my schedule.

The professor could use the whole wall board to do one problem. I would just mentally check out and just right every thing down he said and then spend hours figuring out what he was doing.
Dear god, that reminds me of my multivariable calculus professor!!! (bad flashback) We were in a tiny square room, where every wall was a chalkboard. He would fill up EVERY wall. He also had a habit of naming variables after the three stooges. X would be Moe, Y would be Larry, Z would be Curly and lambda would be Shep for instance. I didn't even know that there was a Shep as a stooge, did you?? Then he would mix up the names. There were 20 or so of us that dropped down to 8 as the semester went on. And oh god. He would teach us the actual calc, but then make us do these awful proofs on tests. That's all his tests were. Proofs. I would have killed for a happy little triple integral!
When you say micro, do you mean micro bio? I would assume. Did you have to take any organic chemistry?

Texas Equestrian Trail Riding assoc.

No, just that one semester of general. It wasn't my thing. My minor was Biology. Chemistry wasn't required at the time. I went seeking trouble:') Maybe I would have enjoyed organic more. I was like, but don't we get to do experiments and stuff? It was mostly a text class. Even in lab, it was paperwork doing equations.

Not trying to get personal but can I ask you if you would pay 700 dollars for a wedding cake? I'm supposed to provide the cake for my son's wedding and this just seems ridiculous to me. Is it the custom now?

I could go by 3 cakes and a jar of icing for 50 bucks and put one together myself. She wants a "wedding cake" though.

People around here are big into quincineras and weddings and are telling me this is reasonable:'(

Yeah the horse would be trained to jump by a trainer. That's what they want to try ofr 30 days before they commit to buying him. The trainer is going to ride him those 30 days to see if the horse will do it, and if he is safe for the kid.

That's about what my son's MIL paid for their cake at their wedding. I'm with you tho and think that is ridiculous. When Jenny got married I paid $175 from a lady who does cake decorating at home.

I helped at my nephews wedding. They got their cake for about 150 at Albertsons grocery store. If you're paying for it, you should be the one that a gets to order it. IMO:)

I'm here just getting my food ready for my trip. There is a pot luck dinner on Sat. night so I'm making potatoe salad. As soon as the potatoes finish boiling, I'm giving Harley a bath. I'm hoping that lady calls today, but agrees to wait till next week for me to bring him over there. The camping trip would be really good experience for him right before he goes there. But if she wants him today or tomorrow I want him really clean and pretty. His mane and tail are pretty yellow instead of white.
