The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

You know, this will sound real sappy, but your saying that kid could go far with him made me think, last night we were watching something on TV, can't remember what, but there were horses running across a pasture, and it brought tears to my eyes. You know there is just nothing prettier then a horse, nothing. Mack was laughing at me. But thinking of a young girl with a pretty horse,...well I'd have given anything at that age just to pat one.

Mal, you around?

Hi Cindy! Got back from my martial arts class a short while ago, and have been busy on other threads. What's up?

My first one was an pretty homely guy (the mustang), but I loved him dearly.

Hey. I tried to get cute on post 4047 and now all my comments just keep going across. Is there a way I can fix it?

Oh, I'm not smart, please don't think I'm smart. I just work really really hard. I'm actually pretty stupid for attempting all these classes at once! :-) Attempt being the key word. I'm taking modern physics because I want to go for my physics minor. Was going to pull a double major but would have had to write two theses (no idea how to spell that)THAT would be REALLY stupid.

General chem. is nice. Organic is where all the fun begins. When you can use the words alkene alkyne and alkane in the same sentence and know what they all mean, you know that you're there. :-) Or finally know what TNT stands for, or other really bizzare truely wacky stuff. I enjoyed synthesizing all the drugs the most :-p ;-)It's not sad if you can't retain formulas. Just get a Merk manual or a CRC and you're all set. You must use a Merk, yes?
Something to remember about formulas for compunds for inorganic chemistry, is that the charge on one molecule becomes the subscript for the other. Lead, for instance, has a 2+charge, Iodine has a - charge. So the formula becomes PbI2. H20- water. H has a + charge, O has a -2 charge, so then it becomes H20. Of course, there are other reasons behind that one, but that's an orgranic thing. Oxygen can only have two bonds, so it can only take on two hydrogens. H-0-H.
But anyway, that's REALLY enough out of me. :-)

You know anything about getting a horse to jump? Is it hard?
I wouldn't let the daughter train Harley unless she's older and has a lot of jumping experience. It can be hard to teach a horse how to jump correctly, and it can be dangerous if you don't. So if Harley doesn't jump, and they don't want to have it done right, I'd think twice about selling him to them.

Thanks for the Olympic schedule of Equestrian events! Cool it looks like many of them will be televised (seems like more TV coverage than the Australia games.)

I love that picture of the bucking dressage horse. It looked like the horse in the first cross country picture is in the middle of a fall. Or maybe it's just the way that he's jumping.

The first picture is most definately a fall.... do you mean the second one? - the grey? I think the grey is twisting to clear but she made it that way.

electrons were cool to work with. We did a lot of element formula work in A/P. This class was really all math though. It was a big disappoint to me. It was my elective and you should enjoy those, you know? The professor could use the whole wall board to do one problem. I would just mentally check out and just right every thing down he said and then spend hours figuring out what he was doing.

My favorite as I said was micro. We prepared all semester for the party. In the lab we made (grew) cheese, corn beef, wine etc. Of course we grew non-edible bugs too. We keep them in a seperate incubator though:')

She's little but doesn't know it. I like that.

If I has to pick it would also be the one running thru the water. I like to see horses in water for some reason. BRB.
