Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Yeah, I know that now:), and they knew it then, they just wanted to ~surprise~ us. I didn't think it was funny at the time:)

If anybody wants to see some great horses, try going to

Most of the horses are in California, but there are SO MANY!

~Nudges sleeping thread~ Does anyone have any riding stories?
We may actually go riding today! First time we've had time since before the wedding crunch time. It's our week-anniversary, we deserve it!
ecurbh got the coolest saddle bags for a wedding present... they're insulated. You could actually put ice in there to keep the lunches and water chilled!
And we both got new riding boots to try out! He's been riding in tennis shoes, so he didn't look like much of a horseman, and mine were worn out. Now we have new ones!
Morning. Haven't rode in several days. I've been under the weather. Thinking about it today. My lil grandson starting horse camp monday. He doesn't want to ride "Buttercup" though. He wants.... Okie, of course. lol The instuctor said he would just be led so it would be ok but my husband and I said no. The horse doing so good but IMO he's not ready for this little Texas twister yet.:')
When you know him better and try kiddie rides, you'll be surprised at how careful most horses are with little ones.
Bay walks soooo sloooooow with a little on on board!
I'm waiting on a friend as we speak to get here to ride. Reba was shoed Thrus. and I'm taking her out today. First chance since she got them. We've been busy at the Green Corn Festival. Mack is driving one of the town queens:) in a car at the parade this morning. He said he wouldn't have his feelings hurt if I wasn't there to watch him debut in a parade:). He's got the camera again so I can't take pictures, but will take some trail pictures next week.

Yeah, Eddie or I just want to be there though. He "helps" me with Okies grooming sometimes but I haven't had him there when I ride yet. He's a talker. Never hushes, and never still, and I mean never. I'm kind of quiet and it messes up my concentration. I can't focus on the horse because I have to keep watching the "kid". Kind of selfish, I guess but that's "my time" He and his little brother live with us and that's when my husband and I get away. I told him if he does good at horse camp , I'll think about it :')
If he were in the back of the car waving.... I am sure you'd go.... ;~D
Oh, and Okie walks sooooooo slowwwwwwwwww with just me on board (unless we are headed home:')
Oh - Yeah - I wouldn't let anyone do kiddie rides if I wasn't there either... I didn't get that part.
Kids are funny, some without fear running around under horses, and some very timid to get near. At least when they are in the saddle they aren't under foot. It's the safest place for fast ones!
LOL. I hadn't thought about it like that. I have considered lunging him and tieing him up while I ride though :')
LOL....well maybe....but I really enjoy riding too:)
You know, after 30 years of marriage, we have figured out it's OK for each of us to have our own interests and to go do those interests with out the other. Mack and I are so alike and so different. I can tell buying this building has been very good for him. He's a real people person. Good at smoozing. Our little town is trying to revitilize our downtown area, and he is getting to kown all the people and committeess, (and gossip:), about getting business to move down there our downtown area as kind of gotten off the beaten path and died off some. I have no interest in that sort of thing. I have no patience when it comes to schmoozing. I'd rather deal with animals:).
Fri. night when we were down there one of the men that is really spearheading the movement that Mack has gotten to know well was there. His wife is going to be the principle of one of the pubilc schools here. 1-4 grade I think. Mack told me, (oh, you know what I think of the public school system, right??) "Becky, now I would like to stay friends with this guy, so don't get into it with his wife about the schools". Is all I could say was, "I'm not lying or hiding my opinion, but I'll be nice about it" :) LOL...he laughed.
Anyway, when you each presue your own interests but are will ing to listen and be interested in discussion each others interests it gives you something to talk about in the evenings when you meet back up.
I'm rambling now, sorry. We;ve just been discussing lately how there seem to be so many couples who don't want their spouses to go off and presue something that interests them without it ALWAYS being TOGETHER thing. We don't understand that thinking. You can be individuals and still stay happily married.
Becky
ecurbh's family were all impressed by him saddling his horse, something he didn't know about when they last met.
All the kids got to go:
I agree with you! I am happy to have married a guy that will be pretty secure about me going off and doing something on my own.... and I know that it will be good for him to have that too.
I know I look like a hick but the jeans/sweat pants had to go. I was burning up.
You're going where?? And doing what?? Without me?? ;~D
LOL!
It is a standing joke around my house that I can go anywhere I want as long as I stay in Texas and am home before dark :')
I have to get some things done now. I really will try to get some pictures here this week (I haven't forgotten) Just none of me in boot, shorts, and helmet though :')
