How sad. Ray Charles died today.
I heard Ray Charles in concert in Portland five years ago. He was magnificent. When he sang America the Beautiful the entire "diverse" audience was moved and unified. I hope they play it at Reagan's funeral tomorrow.

I loved the quote that Dick Cheney used yesterday of Pres. Reagan's. "You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give." I may print that up and put it on the wall in my office.

Excellent musician, hadn't heard that he'd died.

It is ninety-one degrees here right now, with a heat index of ninety-five. And I still haven't turned on my central air this year. I just open certain windows in the house a couple of inches and turn on the attic fan. I am quite cool.

But I am keeping my granddaughter after she gets back from girl scout camp and my daughter will pick her up. I know what she will be saying when she hits the door....mama, you are trying to give my chilrun heat stokes. I just laugh and ask her if she puts the kids in air conditioned bubbles when they go outside to play.

Ok Swerv, we need to get this straight. Explain to me how to differentiate between those cuts and how they have been treated.

A ham is the rear leg of a pig.
Unless you need a 15 to 30 pound chunk of meat, you usually buy either a 'butt' half or a 'shank' half, with the shank half being the lower part.

The shoulder and picnic ham are from the front leg with the 'picnic ham' piece being the shank.

I think the shank portions look better, and they are usually the only ones sold with skin attached, but the meat all ends up about the same when shredded.

The skin serves as a trivet to protect the cut end and provides the gelatin that makes the juices so succulent.

Smoooches back

Some say you need to think positive thoughts to get well, but I think dirty thoughts will work better.

Ray Charles was 20 years younger than Ronald Reagan. He is my dad's generation.

"Did you see that crowd today??"

That reminded me so much of how it was when Reagan was elected. The people loved him then and still do. That was the one time in my life that I felt that all was right with the world and it was largely because of President Reagan. He was truly the greatest president of my lifetime.
