Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

...they've got lemon verbena.

Anywhere you can get a lemon verbena can be made to seem sorta "home away from home!" :-)

My room-mate in college was actually overheard on the phone asking "So how much are your free estimates?" we laughed at her for months... years even!

And even now!!! LOL

What's on your agenda today? Anything much? Been wondering how Dona's shingles are. Is she miserable? Do ya think she's going to be able to handle the wedding preparations?

The lilacs smell pretty, too bad all the flowering shrubs won't still be blooming at the wedding.... unless you guys could all get out here - right now - ;~D

Lilac smell actually brings back memories of a bad experience. In college, the place across from my house had a whole hedge of them, white, lavender and purple all mixed together, was really pretty and the whole street smelled nice.

I cut a bunch of them and put big bouquets in every room of the house. I woke up so stuffed up and sick from lilac overdose that I got them out of the house and still had a headache for a week... Because the whole street smelled like them, I couldn't get away from the smell till they stopped blooming!

A little bit is good.... but there is such a thing as too much!

She's doing pretty well. She isn't broken out too bad to look at, her face is not broken out like she feared, but I guess it is in her hair.

She's still busy doing things, she isn't the type to sit and obsess on it. She isn't as bad as dad was when he got them.

Yes, a little bit of lilac fragrance goes a LONG way. But, I love it! I have tried planting lilac several times at the old house but it never made it. I should get one here and see if it likes conditions at this place... hadn't thought of it.

Lilac has a memory affect on me too. It is similar to the lemon verbena I'm always going on about. My grandfather's mother lived a short distance from Grama and Pepaw's house. Walking distance. She had lilac in her front yard. I loved to go there and sit in front and smell that lilac. She would always feed me peach ice cream and let me take a sprig of the lilac back home with me. I would walk over every 3 or 4 days to get myself another sprig. (Just one though!)

It was Grama's mother who had the lemon verbena growing by her front porch. I would do the same with the lemon verbena. Those two plants always evoke fond remembrances of the great-grandmothers. Hence my great love for them. Well, that and the fragrances. :-)

I'm glad to hear that. I know from all you've said about her that it would be disappointing to her if she didn't feel well enough to do up your wedding the way she'd like. I hope she's through the worst of it and maybe it'll be gone more quickly than normal too!

I could get her some jingle bells!

Now that would be cute. Would she cooperate?

I was driving at night and for a moment thought there was some nut in a Santa costume prowling the neighborhood.

I love those 'Santa legs' that folks put up in their chimneys, sticking out to make it look like Santa got stuck!

I wouldn't if I were her. I'd rather be obstinate! LOL

Corin; ticks, amazing little creatures, they are. Have often wondered about the role they play, haven't figured it out yet. :-)

The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites.'

Afternoon. Not sure what has gotten into the dwarf. But the sun is back out and I feel the need to get back out in the yard to play in the dirt.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I think I've taken up gardening as a hobby...

As I still haven't heard from some members of my immediate family, you're not even that belated.

Well, I hope it was happy anyway. Next Entmoot, I'll buy ya an Irish Car Bomb.

Jr's birthday was last Monday. I felt bad 'cause he hadn't heard from my brother. They're always very prompt. And I knew they were sending money for his missions trip. My s-i-l called Saturday to tell us the post office had returned his card as undeliverable. But she read the Mrs. the address and all was correct. Go figger...
