The Hobbit Hole VIII - Still round the corner we may meet...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

For a minute, OT, I thought your 4203 was in response to Corin's 4202. I had this vision of Corin aiming squirt guns at overly-hormoned young kids...

Jeff Bridges in his hippy econut incarnation in King Kong was kinda scary.

Well that one, I took a pass on, but I loved Starman, The Fisher King, and Blown Away.

Dunno, the teens might need it more. And are probably more in need of a good washing.

Not worried! You know I'd go chase 'em with the ARC but they don't think I'm trained enough.

You should be here. The rain has gotten the first of the honeysuckle wet and the breeze is blowing that wonderful honeysuckle fragrance all in the house! I am lovin' it! :-)

LOL.... sky is green.... know what that means...

I just hate it when they cry ... you can't help them when they're distracted by their tears.

I've had a couple of women in tears when I took their calls. One was a nurse in ER who said her PC wouldn't power up. She said there was no other computer for her to use, but I know the ER (I've done field support for four years before sitting down at the helpdesk), and she was either being lazy, or was feuding with someone (not uncommon).

Another caller was in tears because her laptop was locked up, and couldn't be reset. It took me 20 minutes to talk her into how to take out the battery. I told her there was a power cable from the AC adaptor, and it's always black. That had to be removed too, to cut the power and cause the laptop to reset.

After telling her not to pull the yellow cable (the network cable), she pulls it out, and starts crying that the laptop was still running. I finally convinced her that the one remaining cable, the black one, must be the power cord, and she had to pull it if she wanted to reset her PC.

Her laptop reset itself, and I could tell her gratitude and relief was genuine. I won't be rewarded for it, because the unofficial norm is three minutes per call, start to successful completion, and I blew 30 minutes on her problem.

I resent most being threatened. One nurse (nurses can only threaten, doctors can make good on threats) threatened me with personal responsibility of anybody who dies in the ER if I didn't get her software working in the next ten seconds. Same thing with a tech in pharmacy. They think threats speed up the process, when in reality they slow it down, because I have to take time out to acknowledge their ranting.

One threat I was able to neutralize effectively. The nurse said I was too slow in getting her system working (it's a 10 minute process, threats or not), saying that doctors were going to write her up for not having their reports, and it wasn't her fault. I said, "put the doctor on the phone. I'll give him my name, and the email address of our CIO. If he wants to file a complaint, complain about me. It's not my fault, either, but I won't let you take the rap unjustly." The threat evaporated with that.

You know, despite the entertaining nature of ya'll's stories, you are a set of people I really admire. Even though the stories we hear are enough to make *anyone* want to pull their hair out ya'll always handle them well. I can personally say that most of my life when dealing with tech support people, the folks have always been kind and helpful. It really takes a very special kind of person to do ya'll's jobs and even though you are seldom thanked there are a lot of us out here who really do appreciate the kind of help you and others like you are able to provide for us.

So, if you don't hear it anytime this month, you heard it from me. HUGS to all of you!!!

Just listened to it--that rocked! :) The opening kind of reminded me of Jimi Hendrix and then it drifted off into a unique synthesis of several American styles--there were elements of old-fashioned rock, heavy-metal, punk, and other stuff. The singer's voice really expressed the emotions, too, even though I couldn't follow the lyrics (even with the translation the figures of speech were unusual). Is there a video that goes with the lyrics?

BTW I like openers for stuff, too--have a whole CD full of downloads of theme songs from TV shows, including most cartoons :)

You'll get to see the video that goes with that in a few days. I really like it. During the first bit, there are various still shots, in dark colors - various characters from the manga, and it looks like scraps from a comic book. Then when the lyrics start, it comes to life - very nicely done, IMHO.

(Oooh, oooooh... just located all the openings to Ranma. I'm bad)
