Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

It's kinda ugly. And scary. But it's definitely the thought that counts.
Just kidding. Did I ever tell you I admire your graphics abilities? You must never use your powers for evil, though, or the results could be tragic.

Who's the anime character in the Hobbit Hole? Soupy knows who all those folks are, but I'm clueless and she's not here right now. She did Driving School all week, and she's staying over with her homeschooled friend who's also in the class. They have their last day of class tomorrow and have a test. They're studying together for it. After I pick her up tomorrow, we're going to the RMV to get her Learner's Permit! ARRGH! It's been 5 years since I've had to teach someone to drive!

Our Howard Shore tickets came... we are in row C, seats 14, 15 and 16 on the third tier center section.
Scott and Penny, what seats did you end up with?

I have a copy of Bujold's Memory in that series, which I scarfed up at a rummage sale, but I haven't read it yet. Is it good?

Well, the tornadic part of the storm passed two miles south of me...we took cover in our hallway at one point.
I'm not sure it's over...

Cartman would be hella-cool. But Michael Jackson--shudder! That's worse than Sauron and Saruman put together! What would Michael be in Tolkien terms anyway?--he looks kinda like an elf gone bad but he's not really an orc, either. Maybe an exceptionally twisted form of wraith? Or a tall version of Gollum, perhaps, though I'm not sure who's more messed up between Gollum and Michael Jackson--I actually like Gollum better.

Sorry to hear you had such a lousy day! See...part of what you mention is what gave me a love / hate relationship with writing when I was in school - it's totally subjective, except for a few basic rules. In math, 2+2 is always 4...but there isn't necessarily a right answer in writing. A lot depends on what the TEACHER likes, if they don't try to just judge fairly...it can be highly discouraging.

Memory is wonderful. Unfortunately, it revolves around you knowing who the characters are - or at least, Miles and Simon Illyan. You really have to read some of the other ones first.
Memory was one of those books that, for the first 1/3, seemed like 'just another pretty decent installment in the series', and then took a turn out into left field and became really good. But only if, like I said, you know who these people are, so you understand that, for instance, Miles is acting outrageously because of a sense of duty to certain other characters...
There are two anthologies of the first few Vorkosigan books - Young Miles and Miles Errant - there's another anthology that's not worth much time, it's got (IMO) the weakest of the Vorkosigan stories.

But I'm getting a good grade in the class. He just felt the need to denigrate my genre.
Computer classes are much easier.

Computer classes are much easier. Yep!
Speaking of which...I had my first annual evaluation today. One of my goals is to get Network+ certification by next summer. And I signed my life away on the form sayin' I'd try for it.
Wish me luck...I'm gonna need it!

If I could prove it or if I had seen them, the three small forsythia plants would have turned into three switches. I don't know if they were forsythias or not, but we had some HUGH 'switch bushes' in our yard when I was growning up. Mama kept them 'pruned' on a regular basis with 8 kids in the house! ;o)

This will be good, though out of my comfort zone. Gotta learn about the inner workings of networking. I'm happier with just PCs. But it'll look good on a resume and give me a better understanding of how networks work...and why they sometimes don't.
I know the very basics about DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP...but only enough to do a little trouble-shooting on the PC end. For the most part, that's all I want or need to know. But I think this will still be good for me.

Somehow I knew with my luck I must've grabbed a later book in the series--after all, when I was a kid I tried to start LotR by reading Two Towers because that was the only book my library had :) I'll see if I can find the earlier books in the series before I read Memory, then :)
To: RosieCotton
I hate networking. Can't offer you anything but sympathy. Sympathy, and anime. Burning the last Scrapped Princess cds right now. I fully intend to ship out this package tomorrow.
IF I can get the 'Ranma' disks back from my thieving sister. She's promised to give it back tonight, said she just needed something silly.
