Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I haven't really looked at any of the Atkins products...but mocha sounds good. Are they really, really pricey, though?Yep, they are pricey. I tried one of the cereals once, and I couldn't eat it. It smelled funny when I opened the box, then when I poured milk on it and took a bite, I had to spit it out! It was just gross! I'd rather just not eat any cereal at all than eat that stuff!

Can I rant, please?Hey, that's what we're here for :)
Sorry to hear you're sick. On writing class, your professor sounds like one of those wanna-be intellectuals who thinks he's "above" genre writing--meaning of course he's above Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, etc., not to mention Professor Tolkien--you know, that guy who helped edit the Oxford English Dictionary and wrote a novel that was voted best work of the 20th century--hmmm, wonder if your professor can say the same? Like that "genre" author Tolkien, you're a better writer than your professor will ever dream of being--which is of course why he has to criticize you, because as they say, "Those who can't, teach." Take comfort in the fact that you and I will be published writers when your professor is still teaching undergraduates who can't write complete sentences how to write nihilistic crap. End of my own rant :) Does that help? :) Hope ya feel better!

The really, truly scary thing is, he writes horror. But somehow my genre is sub-par.
I've seen a sample of his work. He's technically a good writer, but his stories don't interest me at all.

How he can write horror and look down on other genres doesn't make sense to me. What kind of horror does he write?--probably some aspiring "literary" crap, I bet. As I know you know, being technically a good writer is a lot different than being a good writer in the sense of being an interesting writer. Isaac Asimov was technically a good writer, but his books are boring. Robert Heinlein or Ray Bradbury were good technical writers as well as good writers--and they could both write SF or horror equally well. A writer who can only write in one genre is an incomplete writer IMO. End of rant :)

Thanks.
Stupid git doesn't like Heinlein, either, I referenced him as an influence in an essay on my writing I had to turn in and it came back with this snooty little note about 'Heinlein's rather discredited today' - what the heck does that even mean?
As soon as I work up the energy, I'm going home.

Your professor does sound like a stupid git. Let's make him into a character in a horror short story--it will be about a stupid professor who teaches a bunch of stupid students who turn into zombies, which will be a satirical commentary on the educational system. . . :)

Maybe he will get a guest star spot as a demon-cultist in our comic.

but my goal for now is 115 by Mother's Day. (looks both ways) I will settle for loosing say... 25 lbs by mother's day! The rest of it will have to come off over the remainder of the summer.
I have been feeling much like a beached whale for months now.

you should have gone to the doctor. Unless, of course, you enjoy feeling miserable.

I'm home now.....here're the ingredients for liver pudding:
Pork broth, pork livers, corn and wheat meal, pork, salt, spices, caramel coloring.
8 grams of carbs in a 2 ounce slice.
I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and they had this display for a new service. If they don't carry a product you want, they'll order it for you. Maybe I should get them to order some liver pudding. :)

Maybe he will get a guest star spot as a demon-cultist in our comic.Hmmm, there's another idea: an evil demon takes the shape of a professor and plots to take over the minds of students everywhere in order to fill the world with bad writing :) It could be kinda like Puppet Masters with the professor playing the role of the alien "groupthink" leader, and his students could have the aliens stuck to the back of their necks. . .

I haven't been able to get to the doctor. If I took three hours to get in to see my doctor, have her look at me and hand me a perscription... they might have Saturday hours, but I can't skip class to go, and the other days I'm way out on the other side of town.
Besides, I can't get too worried about it when everyone else in my house has the same thing - albeit a milder form. We probably just keep reinfecting each other.

Students merely need encouragement to fill the world with bad writing, not brainwashing. They're happy to spit out drivel for us to suffer with.
Eww, besides, you reminded me of the solution to that problem - public nudity - and envisioning some of my classmates - ewww!
