Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yawn... it is an effort of will to get out of bed Mondays. Ten minutes, and I've got to go to cubicle village. Ugh. No freeping there.

I'm so tired...

I got into a big argument with brother #2 this weekend about diet.

Golly. (((HUG))). I've discovered that *the* #1 no-no topic for polite conversation is nutrition/diet. People are more sensitive about it than politics and religion combined. Prolly 'cuz it's easy enough to opt out of politics and/or religion, but everyone has to eat.

You just do your research, and do your thing. And anyone critical can just stick it in their ear. *We'll* support you in whatever you choose to do.

I'm NOT doing any low-fat diet. He was right about one thing, though...I've been counting calories for three months, and THAT didn't work.

I'm starting South Beach this morning, or something very similar - I may use full fat dairy instead of the low-fat cheeses he recommends. So far so good... ;-) I'm expecting to end up with a major headache by tomorrow, but I'm willing to go through that to start.

I'm rooting for you, Rosie. Do you have some 'allowed' food that you really like on hand? Something for when you get nibbly at work?

Willpower will get you through the first three days. After that it's much easier.

I have some cheese and nuts...not allowed a TON of nuts, but that should help. And I have plenty of tea and Splenda here, various kinds.

That's what the lady who (along with Jim) got me to finally take the first step said: the first three days are tough, but after that it's not so bad. She said she'd never wanted bread so badly in her life, and even things she didn't normally crave all THAT much, she suddenly really, really wanted.

Going real good! I'm suffering from a bit of a cold, but otherwise, things are good. Matthew is on the downhill slide in school...almost done if we keep working hard.

He finished Cub Scouts...he's a Webelo now. I'll post some pictures of him getting his new scarf and such. We didn't stay for the whole ceremony, just his part because earlier he'd barfed in the car. He never did again, so I suspect he just got carsick from playing his laptop while I was driving! LOL

All the chicks are good...hens are laying, babies are growning...

I've found his essays to be pretty conservative, for a Democrat. What was this one about?

On the whole, I agree. This was on gay marriage and he gets off on a tangent about how great affirmative action is. Have you read Pastwatch where he speculates on what life would have been like if Columbus hadn't done his thing. He basically makes the case that, while slavery was bad, things could have been a whole lot worse (ie. human sacrifice). But at least OSC isn't as squishy on the Iraq war as the impression I had of him. Ah well. He's still a good sci-fi author.

I have today off and I'm going to go get my hair done. Yaaaay!

But then I spend the next three weeks (more or less) at White Sands doing testing. I love that area, but I don't want to be away from my sweetie, house and pets for that long.

They are in a rubbermaid tote on the screened-in porch. I do have more pics, but I have to turn on the other computer to upload them.

I'll do it later.

Hard times have fallen on the army....NO FOOD! As of tommorrow we are eating all MRE's. Due to last weeks fighting there have been no supply convoys from the south. Should only last a few days though. On to bigger things. I have been working with a translator named Adnon for a few weeks now. Adnon is a Christian, has a masters degree in English, and does volunteer work at two different orphanages in the Mosul area. He says that there are about 20 kids at each one and they range between 6 and 12 years old. Keep in mind that a 12 year old would look like a 6 year old in America. They are very small. We are looking to collect items to distribute to the kids. The things we are looking for are school supplies, clothes, either new, or that your kids have out grown, toys, also either new, or out grown, shoes(very few children have shoes) and of course candy.(they love that stuff) Anything you could do to help would be magnificient. Dad, pass this on to Joy so she can beat up Walmart for donations. Other than that things are quiet here and have been peaceful since last week. It is raining today for the first time in two months. Hopefully our food crisis is almost over and we can continue getting fat! Take care all.

Suzi, any chance Soupy-kun can get us some info? Or more lovely anime? I'm about ready to kill for Fruits Basket.

I'll have to ask her this evening. She's in Driver's Ed all day every day this week. She's gonna be wiped out this afternoon when she gets home. We did Camping Leader training for the Girl Scouts this weekend and we were tired when we got home yesterday around noon. then we helped SSQ take down a tree in the back yard and haul the larger pieces to the woodpile, and the smaller branches to Mordor out back. Then, for whatever reason, we didn't get to bed til after midnight! You'd have thought we'd have passed out long before that. Guess we got our second wind. But tonight we're getting to bed EARLY!!

And the auction winners are:

Woo-hoo! I missed this earlier!

I'm a bit disappointed for your sake that things didn't get bid higher, but on the other hand...as I said, woo-hoo!

That darn dachshund is good for something. ;-) This is coming out of the cash Dad gave me to take him.

I'll send you a freepmail.
