Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

"Kick dog"

Any little dog under 5-6 pounds that yips a lot. At least.... that's the joke. Not so funny when someone actually does it.

Good job! We're making progress!
I really need something better to watch while I'm running. News just doesn't cut it, I get better news here.

Apparently that was just a local gravitational disturbance. It happens. I've gotten used to them. Really creeps other people out, I've noticed.Maybe that's what happened to my computer last night--never considered it might be a local gravitational disturbance. . .

Sigh... I'm not really evil, you know.
My muse is evil. I have two active writing projects, so what do I do today but come up with a whole new plot, three characters, and a society? Sigh.

That's gonna be an interesting day. Yep. And ya know...though it COULD potentially affect us (I'm actually not sure how locked down we have the Mac systems on campus), I almost can't wait for that day, just so I can say "I told you so" to all the people who believe Macs don't have any vulnerabilities. That isn't what's saved 'em...it's just the fact that no one has bothered to exploit them yet.

I'm still listening to Harry Potter.
They're about halfway through smuggling Norbert out right now.
But sometimes it's REALLY hard to concentrate on the story and avoid looking at the clock. And looking at the clock makes the time draaaaaaaaag.

never considered it might be a local gravitational disturbance. . . They're really creepy at first, once you notice them. But after a while you can get used to them and they don't mess up your day so much.
Sorta like that thing that happens in empty elevators when they suddenly... oh... wait... nevermind.

My muse is evil. I have two active writing projects, so what do I do today but come up with a whole new plot, three characters, and a society? Sigh.Whereas I would never start a vampire novel and then in the middle stop to work on a story about giant bugs and then interrupt that to write an expose on John Kerry, when meanwhile I'm really supposed to be working on a brochure for my business :) Anyway, what's your new story about?

Yup, I have that problem too... how are you liking Potter? If you become a fan, please help me figure out why I like them.
BTW, Macs are eeeevil, so I hope they get a really nasty virus, soon.

Well, I never heard 'em called that. But, that's sick.
Smeagol's previous owners kicked her a lot. She is still terrified if you walk by her carelessly with boots on. I get to doing things around the house and walk very fast a lot of times. I come around corners and surprise her and she goes scampering terrified into hiding. It's very sad.
Also, I think she must have been kicked out of doors. She is VEY afraid of doors. When she goes in and out I have to open the door and stand back or she will tremble as she crouches to the floor to slink through. Yeah, I get irritated with her Smeagol personality but the behavior she's had to deal with from humans most of her life has gotten her a lifelong protector here.

So far it's entertaining, but not a whole lot more, though the characters are well drawn. But at this point, there isn't a WHOLE lot to the story yet, I'd guess. Compared to what comes later, that is.

How do you two like the Potter series? I've always avoided it, but recently for the sake of keeping up with the genre I forced myself to rent the first movie, only the DVD was messed up so I only got to watch about half.

How on earth do you rub olive oil on yer feet without makin a holy mess? Crush the olives first. Then apply oil to feet.
Just tryin' ta be helpful.

A medieval/fantastic society of some sort (I really want sword fights) with very rigid castes. The hero is a kid who is sold into slavery, rescued by [generic warrior mentor type] and basically joins the warrior class. Only then there's a revolution, he meets an aristocratic lady and her guardswoman and ends up protecting them.
The part that makes it interesting to me is that he's young, like 16 or so, and the noblewoman manipulates him horribly. (Her guard/servant woman is the hero's true love only he doesn't want to see that). I'm not sure I can write about someone who's so naive in some ways, but competent enough in others. Plus it's way too long a project and none of the characters have names.
