Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Mmm, yes, you're right. But series are so comforting, it's nice to have characters you know.

That's why I like mystery series...but they're separate stories, so I don't have to try to find book three or whatever. Can just read 'em.

True! There's one or two SF series I like for that reason, like Keith Laumer's "Retief" stories, which have the same characters but can be read in any order. Most SF series are really series, though, and you're right, that gets old.

Maybe if I ever end up in a bigger place with a library that has sci fi series, I'll get into them. Until then...it just isn't gonna happen.

I spend way too much on books. I've got to cut back. But it's been so hard to read lately. I just get headaches, looking at page after page of text. Which is why I've been reading comics. Plus, some of them have pretty good stories.

But this is my first comic purchase. Used some of my expense check... most of what was left after taxes, actually.

I know she picked up some new manga at Anime Boston. I'll have to find out what it is.
She sold some of her drawings, too! She was vey excited about that.

Cool! Good for her. Wish I could draw. There are stories that can be told better with pictures than just text.

Hi there!

I've had to busily raise my caffeine level this morning. Myranda and I talked till we both fell asleep last night. I think I forgot the last several topics! :-)

I'm half thinking of beginning my semi-annual caffeine detox. I get so hooked on the stuff that I can never get QUITE enough and I'm constantly tired or shaky. Every so often I decide to give it up and feel a lot better as a result, but it's soooo seductive...

And decaf coffee just isn't as good!

You know, I go through that from time to time myself. I haven't been as bad at it since I've been on this job because it just doesn't require as much. But, working in real engineering it was not uncommon for me to get up to counting my coffee intake in number of pots instead of number of cups.

However, this morning is bad, Myranda and I started out with matte. I had 2 cups. Then I had a Red Bull and I've finished my second cup of coffee now. Gotta refill the cup in a sec.

Mmmm...Red Bull. I actually LIKE that stuff, which I guess makes me odd, though there are a few of us!

Speaking of expensive, though...yikes!

Morning Corin! Is the dentist going to need therapy, or did you leave him his fingers?

Ugh, I need to go but I hate dentists.

Ditto

Especially since I'll be told yet again to get braces, which I can't afford, never could afford, and never will be able to afford. If it were necessary, I might be able to find the cash, but for something basically cosmetic, it ain't gonna happen.

I like my dentist. He always tells me about the latest mission trip he's gone on with my church (he attends a different church). Plus he is vey sensitive about pain. If I so much as blink, he'll stop and offer drugs.

He's doin' okay though. Now that Jr's braces are paid for, me and muh crowns are gonna buy the dentist a nice retirement home.

Woo-hoo! ;-)

Good that he's careful, though. I've experienced Navy dentists. *shudder*
