The Hobbit Hole VIII - Still round the corner we may meet...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Thanks for the ping WN. I hadn't seen the earlier posts on this.

Steve, you guys rock!

I SURPRISED a Marine yesterday!
One of the ushers at church turns out to be a retired Marine. He wore his full dress uniform, with all of his medals, not just the ribbons. He had a Purple Heart with at least one device.

After the service, he was greeting everyone. I shook his hand, and thanked him for his service. After a few stunned seconds, he quietly replied "thank you".

Great news, PE. A simple flogging of the guilty should suffice.

In other news, the first batch of knives has arrived!!!! Now to unpack them and get them engraved. Plus, put together a special knife shipment for a lurker here in the Hobbit Hole.

While Hair's off at work today, I went out in the woods with her new metal detector, and found all this inside a half hour. Had it set on the lowest sensitivity setting, and didn't even dig... this was just the stuff that was close enough to the surface to kick the dirt off and pick up.

I'm beginning to wonder just HOW one group of people produced sooo much frap metal.

What exactly were they up to? Hmm...

I've always wanted to try a metal detector, though! Sounds like fun.

It is kinda fun. Might even be more fun if we ever find anything besides frap!

You're hopin' to find chocolate coins?

Hate to say it, but I'm thinkin' you'll be disappointed...

Or does the fact that I'm seeing those as chocolate coins say something about *me*? Hmm...

Awww, shucks. Well, at least you can get 'em cheap at the after-Easter sales.

Mmmmm...after-Easter sales...

Usually by the time I get to the sales, though, the only things left are Peeps of various sorts. Not that I don't like 'em...but I'd rather have chocolate!

I've met very little candy I didn't like. And it shows.

Steve got me a couple of new babies...

They are Americaunas, or "Easter Eggers"...they lay blue and green eggs.

That's Rosabel on the left and Isabel on the right...(my little nieces, age 3 and 6, named them.)

They are SO cute! Did you know that Martha Stewart has a line of paint colors based on the shades of the eggs laid by those chickens?
