Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Our bulbs are coming up!! I'm so excited because it was just a couple of weeks go that we still had SNOW on the ground! I've got some crocus already up; yellow and purple, and my hyacinths will be budding soon!! I bought a pot of purple tulips at the store the other day. I just LOVE those!

Hmmmm.....maybe you could mount a longbow on the driver door so all you have to do is reach out the window to shoot? 'Course you'd have to do it left-handed unless you're driving a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

Sorry to hear about that hot water heater problem but it sounds like ya'll have all rallied and totally got it whipped. A nice long hot tub soak would do me good about now too! :-) And I only say that cause I wouldn't mind the little bit of pampering. hehehe

Yep, Celia has turned out to be a gift from God. She is the one person that lives here in this town that I can let go and laugh with! I can also do that with my boss' wife who was here with me for those days but they live in another town about 30 minutes away so she is not quite as close.

Hope ya'll have a wonderful set of masses tomorrow. Celia and family are going to mass at 11 and I am going to my church and then we are meeting at her house for the rest of the day! I think I'm going to take The Long Kiss Goodnight because if the kids go off in another room later in the evening I know all the adults there will love it! But, gotta take something kid friendly too in case the kids are underfoot. :-)

Well, the Green Lantern Corps were a group of protectors, each one the strongest-willed individual from their sector of space. Abin Sur, the Green Lantern for the space sector that included our Solar System, crashlanded on Earth and died in the arms of test pilot Hal Jordan --- just after handing over his green ring and the Power Battery to Hal.

The ring has to be charged every 24 hours; it can then be used to amplify the will of the one who wears the ring. When a ring wearer dies, s/he is drawn to the person in the vicinity with the strongest will. The material the ring is made of has a flaw, in that its energy cannot affect anything colored yellow.

Dunno, Jen ... person decides to trash their normal life, put on spandex, and put their bodies between evil and an uncaring public, there's usually melodrama there.

I'm thinking I don't read the weirdest comics, after all.

"Badger" isn't one of the weirdest comics, really.

By the way, as a sort of FYI, several volumes of "Lone Wolf and Cub" have essays in the back, detailing aspects of medieval Japanese culture, martial arts, weaponry, etc.

Tell us about Jerry ... did I miss someone?

Jerry is a civilian contractor at a US base in a country I cannot yet name. He was a Ranger captain in Vietnam, and is a Texas Aggie grad.

He basically runs the physical facility, and an advance camp that's a two-day roadless drive into the jungle. Says it reminds him of Vietnam a lot. He's the "hotel manager" for 1800 US troops from all the services at the base camp, and also for the 30-some snake-eaters at the forward camp.

I got his name and APO from a friend on an email list. Jerry got a knife and snips, along with names of a few old friends that I was asked to drop on him. He's emailed back a couple of times, thanking us for the knife, inquiring about more, and pleading for pogie bait, phone cards (AT&T works best, he says), personal grooming items, and other stuff for his 1800 "kids". He's probably in his late 50s, so everyone there probably seems a "kid" to him, including most of the officers.
