Who Is Brad Owens?

"How Out of Touch Can This President Be?

The Richmond County Republican Party has cast out one of its candidates for the state House.

The party's executive committee voted to "disassociate itself" from House District 115 candidate Bradley Owens because of his 1992 association with then-presidential candidate David Duke, the former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.

Al, Janeane and myself aren't people who are frivolous about this. Just because we do it with a satirical spin, the only way to do it well is to be incredibly well-informed."

They're going to nothing but scolds, and no one will want to listen to that day in and day out!

No, my psycho kamikaze bird definitely is a robin. He does look a little like Ralph Nader, however - a little scrawny and wild-eyed.

I have no doubt H. Munster Kerry already has his attack dogs in place for that short time he'll be indisposed. It's so funny that he calls any of the Bush ads "negative." Speaking of liars and nuts:

NO prize for guessing who Al Franken's first guest will be when the new liberal radio network, Air America, takes flight today. He took no chances and booked heavyweight blowhard and Ralph Nader-booster Michael Moore. And if that's not comfort zone enough for the lefty loudmouth on his first day, two of Moore's former TV producing colleagues, husband and wife team Patrick Farrelly and Kate O'Callaghan, are shooting a fly-on-the-wall documentary about the network's launch. More Dem nuts, this one a Brazile nut (from NY Post's Cindy Adams):

March 31, 2004 -- DONNA BRAZILE on Al Gore: "I enjoyed p- - - ing him off. But we now talk several times a month. I've stopped cussing him out."

Donna Brazile on Joe Lieberman: "Our Jewish friends were against his running because, they said, 'We don't want to draw attention to ourselves.' "

Donna Brazile on Al Sharpton: "He has the best one-liners. This candidacy thing advanced his media career. That's all he wants. His next gig's to be on TV."

Donna Brazile on Donna Brazile: "Girl, I've taken more s- - - than most people alive."

So who's Donna Brazile? The sweet as pie on the inside/tough as nails on the outside first black woman to head a presidential campaign. Born in New Orleans, her mother was a maid, father a janitor and "so poor we couldn't afford to get sick."

From Martin Luther King Jr. through Jesse Jackson, this eventual major player in U.S. politics became campaign manager for Gore.

Now a Georgetown University professor and CNN commentator, she sits on boards, heads her own firm a la D'Amato and Giuliani, makes a mean jambalaya and red beans and rice, and just delivered "Cooking With Grease: Stirring the Pots in American Politics" to Simon & Schuster. It launches June 2 in New York.

On Michael Dukakis: "My book's brutal about assessing his inept campaign. He actually fired me. I said to him, 'My kind of folks are workhorses. We don't get fired.' He fired me. At the Waldorf."

Colin Powell: "He told me, 'Don't give advice on race relations. Don't let people take you there. That deflects from your message. You don't have to talk about that. Let others do it.' "

Bill Clinton: "Brilliant. No better strategist. Me, I was always part of the clean-up crew. So, after Monica, when they hollered 'impeachment,' I went on the road to tell voters, 'We voted for him. We wanted him then . . . we still want him . . .' He was appreciative. He said thank you. The man knows how the game is played."

Condoleeza: "A loner. Lets nobody in."

Jesse Jackson: "He'll take issue with some things I say about him."

About paid political consultants: "Bloodsuckers! I trash them. It's not about the issues. It's about them. Their ads, their negative advertisements."

About back-stabbing author Richard Clarke: "Hey, when you're at the table you act one way. When you're kicked from that table you act another way."

Page 255 describes my staying so close on her tail at the convention that it ended up, "I treated Cindy like one of my staffers. She brought me food and we spent the day and night running around that big arena."

She tells the scenes behind the scenes:

* Like Gore unwilling to follow Clinton on radio because Bill sucked up all the airtime.

* Like the vice president's jealous reactions when she'd occasionally end up talking to the president.

* Like that time Al was on the dais left, Bill on the right, the room tilted and she had to get reporters to Al's side.

About the coming election: "Going to be so nasty."

During the summertime presidential conventions, bookstores will be up to their assets in political books. Hers, Clinton's, Bob Woodward's . . .

You beat me! But only because gremlins invaded my computer right in the middle of my trying to post it the first time. :-)

I'll ask the mod to remove it.

I've seen this picture posted on a few other threads. He looks jaundiced to me. It bothers me that they won't release his medical records.

I never did get the Al Franken radio gig.

I mean, Al Franken has always been funny, but 90% of his humor has to do with how he looks while doing his routine...you have to admit--he IS funny looking! Consider for a moment the difference between SEEING Jay Leno's monologue vs. reading it in the next-day transcript.

On radio, all that's left is Franken's biting sarcasm. I'm not convinced that will travel well over the unseen airwaves.

Here's a frightening prospect, from the NY Daily News' Lloyd Grove:

Scenario spinning: With the presidential primary season over early, Democratic insiders are speculating that presumptive nominee John Kerry will name a running mate well before the July convention in Boston to recapture momentum, goose his fund-raising and generate favorable publicity in key battleground states. Some Dems are advising Kerry to name his potential Cabinet at the convention in Boston - with Bill Clinton's name being bandied about as a possible secretary of state (assuming such an appointment would pass Constitutional and political muster).

I was surprised that Kerry campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter didn't dismiss these rumors out of hand.

"President Clinton would clearly help the United States regain the respect of our allies across the world," Cutter E-mailed. "As a result of his arrogant go-it-alone policies, President Bush has driven away our friends and allies, leaving us to bear the burden of fighting terrorism and funding the reconstruction of Iraq. But it's premature to discuss vice presidential candidates or cabinet positions."

The second emerging liability is the matter of Sen. Kerry's health and vigor. Few people commented adversely when Mr. Kerry had his cancer operation last year. Most otherwise healthy men go on to fully active lives after such a successful operation. But some people began to notice when he took a week off to relax and "recharge his batteries" at his wife's ski lodge — just when the campaign was heating up and he had not yet recovered from his foolish foreign leaders claim. His staff had to explain that he gets verbally sloppy when he gets tired. (Of course, the presidency is a darned tiring job 365 days a year.)

Now comes the unrelated matter of an operation to repair a torn shoulder tendon, an injury that the Kerry campaign says he incurred while on a campaign bus in January. The post-operative period will again take him out of action for "three or four days." Of such episodes, impressions begin to form.

In the murky background, national tabloid papers speculate that he may be a victim of more embarrassing diseases. Such nasty rumors are commonplace in American politics (and inevitably have their effects), but are fueled by candidates who refuse to release all their medical records — as Mr. Kerry refuses. The limited, general, uncorroborated statements by his personal physician, Dr. Gerald J. Doyle of Boston, only keep the controversy on a slow simmer. The doctor said that "there was no evidence of metastatic disease" and that Mr. Kerry's heart function "was above average for a man his age." Is that really the best his helpful doctor could offer up?

The American public has a growing experience with incomplete, protective or misleading statements by the doctors of politicians and other celebrities. So long as Mr. Kerry refuses to permit the release of his military records relating to his war injuries and health, as well as his current and comprehensive medical records, a curious American public will have to judge the senator's physical fitness for the presidency by publicly available evidence, speculation and rumor. It's Mr. Kerry's own fault if false rumors affect his candidacy.

He is already on record as lying about his cancer condition last year — first denying the condition, then admitting it when the fact could not be avoided. Even The Washington Post yesterday reported: "Kerry, 60, who appeared athletic and robust during his recent skiing holiday, has nonetheless faced medical issues in the past year that have raised questions about his overall health." When The Washington Post puts its corporate teeth into a candidate on a personal matter — that's not good news for the politician. Getting Sick and Tired of Kerry

all that's left is Franken's biting sarcasm

I don't believe it'll come across as biting sarcasm on the radio, just childish whining.

Uh-oh, is GWB taking off the gloves? I hope so.

"I have ordered this level of co-operation because I consider it necessary to gaining a complete picture of the months and years that preceded the murder of our fellow citizens on Sept. 11, 2001," Bush said.

Frankly, I hope Kerry's campaign continues to spread the word that he'll put Clinton back in our living rooms. I can't think of a better way to drive the "undecideds" into Bush's arms.

Sorry if you posted this back on March 1st, I don't remember seeing it.

Chelsea Clinton has finally decided to put an end to media rumors about her. She has hired high-powered publicist Howard Rubenstein to handle the media inquiries relating to her.
For years, the scandal sheets have been writing almost anything and everything about Bill and Hillary's daughter because Clintons' media representatives have always declined to comment on anything to do with her.

But now, the tabloid muckrakers will have to be more careful, as veteran spin master Rubenstein will be on the look out for some kinder coverage for the former First Daughter. (ANI)

Another "pull my finger" moment:

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., walks into a gas station convenience mart to buy a bottle of water and a candy bar in San Diego Tuesday, March 30, 2004. President Bush and Sen. Kerry pointed blame at each other Tuesday for promoting policies that could contibute to the country's escalating gas prices, already at a record high. (AP Photo/Elise Amendola)

Ha, the last time John "I don't fall" Kerry stopped at a convenience store for a bottle of water, it was at the beginning of his ski trip to Idaho and he slipped on a just-mopped floor - an incident politely not reported in the media.

John O'Neill, who debated Kerry on Dick Cavett's show back in 1971, recently has spoken out; thread here.
