How many out there use their real names here? (vanity)
Posted on 03/24/2004 5:30:06 AM PST by Peter J. Huss
Just wondering. I switched a little while back, mainly because I didn't see why I should hide behind a fake name.
When I started using my real name, I was a wee bit more careful about what I posted.
Anyone care to chime in on this? Am I being foolhardy?

I remember that, and frankly it was the first thing I thought of when reading this thread. At least make the nutjobs out there expend a bit of effort when trying to find out who you are, I say - that way, you'll at least weed out the less dedicated ones ;)

I used to use my real name until I had Anti-Freepers calling my employer, etc. Every now and then, I'll use the real name...

Most Freepers are just good peeps you don't have to worry about, but remember, some hostile liberals sneak in once in awhile, and one of them might see something you post and decide to hassle you. It is not a registered poster that you have to worry about. Anyone with Internet access in any country can read your comments.

Are you related to Stands-with-a-Fist??
If so, did Dances-with-Wolves and Ms. Fist ever have any kids? What did they name them??

Sorry about your experience, but I would not feel unsafe in my own home. I have plenty of self protection and I am more familiar with my house than anyone else that would come into it. Wo to those that attempt to harm anyone in my home. Infact I may change it just to entice some idiot into trying something as stupid as that, then they can experience first hand why I use the name looscnnn.

dighton- I actually thought of you when I read this thread, figuring you'll be chiming in on this topic.
I pinged the other posters I thought of while reading this - that might want to "rethink" their REAL name thing!

Before we all get too sanguine about the protection offered by using monikers, I'd like to hear from some Freeper IT wizards about how hard it would be for hostile governments (including domestic 'Rat) and other organizations to track each and every one of us down.
