Ah...the timing of the Gibson smears begins. Im protestant...I believe Gibson is wrong in this. But I wont fault him and the ritualistic traditions of his denomination. To each their own. Faith in Christ is all that matters.

I wont let people smear Gibson in an attempt to anger protestants before his powerful and spiritually charged movie opens.

The question was about doctrine, not ritual. Ritual would be whether the mass was said in English, Spanish, Latin, Hebrew, or Aramaic. Doctrine is what Mel believes, not how he worships.

Great post! Gibson has been very good about reaching out to all Christians in the screenings of this film. I plan to see the movie the first day of its release.

First off I doubt he actually said this, if he did say it than he is wrong. There is no salvation outside the Church means that all will be saved through the Church. "One cannot charge with the sin of seperation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such seperation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect....All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ, they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Chruch." 818 Catechism of the Catholic Church

If you want the truth about what the Catholic Church teaches its real simple, just read the official documents i.e.the Catechism of the Catholic Church, nothing is hiden. No where, in no official document of the Catholic Church does it state that a Protestant will be damned to hell, it just ain't there. Some misguided Catholics have said these things, even some in the hierarchy but that in no way makes it Dogma. Pius IX basically said that if you know or believe the Catholic Church is the Church instituted by God or your denial is culpable, then you have a problem.
