Gibson was interviewed by the Herald Sun in Australia, and the reporter asked the star if Protestants are denied eternal salvation. There is no salvation for those outside the Church, Gibson replied. I believe it. He elaborated: Put it this way. My wife is a saint. Shes a much better person than I am. Honestly. Shes, like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And its just not fair if she doesnt make it, shes better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it.

There's always gott a be a few arsonists in every crowd, pruposely twisting and misconstruing stuff so as to prevent people from reaching an understanding. Speaking of which, haven't seen you on the Calvinist side of the house lately.

You are spreading LIES about Catholic doctrine.I guess I'm in good company then. Take a look at post #119. It looks like virtually every pope and saint in the history of the Catholic Church was also spreading lies, according to your view.

Wow, you've been to Mass a few times and so now you're an expert on Catholicism and can make sweeping pronouncements such as "Catholics mourn their faith."
How enlightened.
I guess what I have been doing for 42 years has all been a facade. All of that joy and wonder brought to me by my participation in the Mass and through Church activities must have just been false hope.

The surefire way to identify a cult is one that believes you must belong to their particular religous affiliation or church in order to receive salvation and eternity with the Lord. That is completely un-scriptural according to the entire teachings of Christ. And yes, the Catholic doctrine teaches they are the way the truth and the light.
Does that make me a Catholic basher or hater...Absolutley not! I just don't agree with much of the doctrine. The great divide within the Church is over doctrine of men and leads many on a path that the enemy intends for them.

One side insists that you must chose Jesus as your "personal" savior! Otherwise, you will go to hell! The other side, insists that you must take comuion or you will go to hell! I say love each othersn and do good unto others and you will go to heaven even if the other two sides disagree.

"The Church" is made up of every person that has ever or will ever place their Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. No matter where they show up on Sunday morning. This is not the teaching of the Catholic faith. The Church is made up of all those who hold and believe the entirety of the Catholic faith and remain in communion with the visible Church existing here on Earth.

The Catholic Church does not beleive this, or if it does it's not talked about now. I am currently in an RCIA program to formally become Catholic and the views are not as narrow as they were in the past.
They do encourage having a direct relationship with God, reading the bible and definately praying. It's really no different then the other more fundamental churches I've been to (except the music and the fundamental churches are more expressive during worship). Oh and the Bible is not taken literally word for word in the Catholic Church.
The real difference is communion, breaking of bread and wine. The belief that Jesus is among us specifically when this is done. The Eurcharist (sp) is taken literally and why not, Jesus is all around us all the time. The communion is beautiful and deeply touching (atleast for me). I just don't want to see Catholic bashing. This church has many flaws but there are a lot of good things to be had from it. It's more of a culture wrapped into worshiping God but not a Cult.
I have never and hope to never hear that non Catholics don't go to heaven. It's up to God to judge and decide.
I would dare say, I bet we'll find out that every good soul goes to heaven b/c God created us all so why would he destroy a soul that didn't receive his love.
I dunno.

This is my problem with Catholicism in a nutshell. Too many people listening to what a man says rather than what the Bible says. That'll get you into a world of trouble every time.Far to many curches do this.

I was brought up a "Roman Catholic" and I was told if you were not Catholic you could not go to heaven .I was about 11.
This presented me with a huge theological problem seeing my mother was a Protestant as well as my mothers parents ,about 1/2 my friends. As it turned out that caused me to question everything I was taught ,it rocked my world big time, I began to search for the truth .I ended up getting my first bible from a kid in math class a few years later. Then I really began to learn what was true.I have now been reading the Bible for 36 years .No man can tell me what is true.

Where was the joy and wonder? Not all services are made equally, I can understand that (I've been to enough denominations in enough churches to figure that out), but from what I've seen there was no joy. There was no happiness. It was a large group of people (whose faith and devotion I am not questioning, BTW) who seemed to just be going through the motions. It honestly made me cringe and want to ask, "If it seems to bore you so much, then why do you bother?"

I'm sorry to inform you that you are misrepresenting the trachings of the Catholic Church. The doctrine you allege that the Church teaches has not been the doctrin for over 50 years. I would suggest that your read Pope John Paul II's book "Crossing the Threshold of Hope" so that you can get the true teaching direct from the head of the Church. Otherwise, you are merely spouting uniformed and destructive opinion. Gee, I wonder who could be the author of that?

Papist Catholics and Traditionalist Catholics are very different.Mel Gibson is a Traditionalist Catholic. Traditionalist Catholics do not ascribe the Pope or Vatican II any power,in fact they openly reject them.Traditionalists are viewed as schismatic by Rome, and Rome is viewed as false Catholicism by Traditionalists.
So everyone equating Mel Gibson with papist Catholics is way off the mark.

Original document - as in the autographs? No. We have LOTS of copies of the NT and OT, and they have proven themselves accurate copies. I'm not going to get into a long dissertation about inspiration and canonicity of the New and Old testament on this thread, but if you would like to have a discussion about it and are looking for answers to your questions, please email me. There are genuine answers to your very good questions. I'm not dodging the question, just moving it to another forum.
