I'm thinking (and have been correct so far) that if I just don't make a big deal out of Matthew idiosyncrasies, he'll grow out of them. I used to have to hold him all the time when he was a baby, because the sound of the a/c or heat kicking on and off would just freak him out. Or someone walking across the floor. Well, I just scowled at anyone who critizised me, but I held him all the time till guess what? He grew out of it.

For a LONG time, I couldn't vacuum with him around...very traumatizing to him. Steve would have to take him outside for me to vacuum. He grew out of that too. (At the same age, around 18 months, we heard him pick the violin out of some classical music I was listening to and mimic it note for note. My mom was with me and we both realized that he must have some exceptional hearing or something.)

For the longest time, he just ate meat, milk and rice. I supplemented with OJ and multivitamins. Now he eats things like gravy, cous cous, spoon bread, corn bread and the like. And he's always like pumpkin pie.

I'm a nurse...I know what the norms are supposed to be and it took me a few weeks to realize that Matthew wasn't the norm. In that time, he went from 6lb 12oz to a little over 4lbs. He was just one freakin' out little baby till in desperation I picked him up and held him all the time. By the time he was four months old, he was bright and confident. What would he have been if I'd ignored his need?

He read his first words shortly before turning 3. He was in first grade at age 4. He was never the norm, not in anything...and that included his diet.

Joshua, on the other hand, is the epitome of normalacy...PRAISE GOD! LOL

Heh...the Mrs. has been known to vacuum Jr's room while he was asleep.

It's been the same with us with potty training Luke. Yes, I know he just turned four and that most "normal" kids are trained much sooner. He was probably ready last year around the time my f-i-l died. But things were too chaotic to work on it then. We've known for months that he knew what to do and just plain didn't want to.

He's crossed that bridge now. Stayed dry at the circus, even tho we put him in a pull-up for insurance purposes. But his mom took him there. And on the way home when we stopped at Walmart he volunteered "I need to go in an use their potty."

Kids develop at different rates and kids have normal needs. They don't all follow the format in the textbooks.

LOL! Makes me feel there is some hope after all.

Elf-boy's diet is odd at best. Anything he eats has to be a certain texture and a certain color. dry and *beige*

I never in my wildest dreams thought I would have such a picky eater. He wasn't so picky when he was a baby. It was like night and day. One day, he would eat anything
I put in front of him, the next, he quit eating everything he used to eat (He was about 2 1/2 when he decided he didn't like food anymore).

On the other hand, meals are easier to plan knowing he will only eat one of three things for dinner: grilled cheese, peanut butter sandwich (NO JELLY), or chicken tenders. Breakfast is another story. Thank goodness he ~likes~ breakfast foods.
