What was Sean Bean in before LotR? It was the first time I'd seen him.

He's played a lot of villains. The first role I remember him in was the bad guy in Patriot Games, opposite Harrison Ford. He was also in "Don't Say A Word," the thriller with Michaela Douglas as a psychiatrist treating a girl who may or may not be psycho.

I know he's been in other movies too, mostly as the bad guy, but those are the ones I've seen him in.

And Sean Bean was in Goldeneye, playing Alex Trevelyan, again the bad guy.

While researching, I found this British series:

I have got to find these DVDs ... the series is set in 1809, during the Peninsular Wars (can anyone say Master and Commander? The Hornblower series? Napoleonic Wars? One of the absolutely most fascinating times in history? I thought you could!) Sgt. Richard Sharpe, of the 95th Rifles, saves the life of one Arthur Wellesley (the future Duke of Wellington); in "reward," Sharpe is given a field commission to lieutenant and command of a company of men who do not respect him.

Oh, the costumes! Oh, the battle scenes! There are 15 movies in the series! I may swoon!

Sean Bean has been in several movies, usually paying a 'bad guy'. He was in Ronin, and Don't Say a Word. He was also in a terrific movie, in a good guy role, though this one was made after LoTR, called Equilibrium. See it if you can find it. He played a Rifleman in the British Army in Europe during the Napoleanic Wars. His was the title character based on a series of books by Bernard Cornwell. He also played a modern British soldier who was held as a prisoner of war during the First Gulf war. I can't think of the name of it right now, but it was a good movie.
