The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I had to pay to ship all my books home when I got out of the military...they put me over the weight limit for household goods. Heh...I'd also taken spare bookshelves from a couple other rooms...I had TONS of 'em.Now I'm way short on shelves, so I have piles...and boxes full still down in the basement. I need to get more shelves.
Of course, as soon as I do, I'll feel like I'm permitted to get more books. And then I'll need more shelves. And then I'll want more books.
It just doesn't end.
Yep, same here :) When I moved last summer it turned out I had 14 cases of books, each with about 4-6 shelves, which ended up being probably literally a ton. I'm still trying to figure out where to put them all! I filled the basement with as many as would fit there, then I had six cases left over I had to fit in my room, so four are in the room itself (including my Tolkien books, of course) and the other two are in the walk-in closet. But despite this I keep having to stop myself from buying more! I have a shirt with a quote from Erasmus that says, "When I get a little money I buy books, and if there's any left over sometimes I buy food and clothes" :)

Heh... I only saw The Bakshi for the first time a month ago. It was late at night, and it affected me strangely...

The stories were good. Driving around in taxis in India is apparently a very harrowing experience... lots of lanes and lots of cars and no stop lights, stop signs, or any semblance of rules of any kind.

Msdrby and I react to books the way Smeagol reacts to fish.Raw and wriggling!--with no potatoes! :)

and it affected me strangely... ...and rightfully so.

Driving around in taxis in India is apparently a very harrowing experienceYou see, I already knew this, because I watched "The Amazing Race". Reality TV can be educational! ;)

I have heard that about India too. Sounds fascinating to me! Several of my friends from my old church had been there on mission trips. Quite intriguing IMO. I would like to do that myself. :-)

When I left the Coast Guard, I did it from Alaska and had to ship all my guns home to Olympia. Sure, the guns were heavy and a shipping problem all their own, but Alaska Airlines has a fairly healthy attitude about such things.
It never occurred to me that the speedloaders in my carryon bag would be a problem... after some anxious minutes at the security checkpoint they let me go on with them anyway... this was of course many years ago.

Forgot about cross-eyed Legolas :) And then my brother always used to say the way the top of Gandalf's staff was curled in the Rankin-Bass version looked like he was wielding a giant Cheetoh. . .

G'night!
To: Ramius
Step one is admitting that you have a problem. Congratulations... you're finally on the road to recovery. :-)LOL! My name is Fedora and I'm a Bakshiholic :)

OK... now you have to admit that only a higher power can help you. And then you have to make restitution to anyone that has ever been harmed by your affection for Bakshi.
That would be pretty much everybody that's ever been afflicted by the entirely normal desire to throw objects at the screen while a Bakshi product was showing... :-)

It never occurred to me that the speedloaders in my carryon bag would be a problem... LOL! Well, at least you didn't do like the scene in Airplane where airport security jumps the guy because he spots his buddy across the airport and waves to him calling out, "Hi, Jack!" :)

The alarm goes off early... so, good night all.
To: Wneighbor
Just didn't think about that huh? It was 1989. Back then *everybody* on an Alaska Air flight had guns. It was *normal*.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Goodnight Bear. Get a good night's sleep!
