The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Smeagol is freakin' out over the thunder. She hasn't ever done that before. I don't think it rains up here enough for her to remember what it is.

Wow. You put in a new gate? Is this at the front of the place or an entrance to the newly fenced part?

Is that whole plan for all of us to stay out at the witch's circle the night of you wedding a real plan? Or do we need to plan to stay someplace else? Busy trying to start my planning.

Heh.... Thunder would bother Gidget as well, if we ever got it! We get very few thunderstorms this side of the mountains.

The guns at Fort Lewis 20 miles away are enough for Gidget. We heard gunfire real close last night.... Watched the traffic at the store for a minute to see if there might have been somethin' bad. Dunno what it was about.

We usually get thunder with rain here. But, since I've lived here we've been in drought conditions so there hasn't been much rain at all. Most springs there are a lot of thunderstorms. It never used to bother Smeagol. Could be age related too. She's an old lady dog.

Heard one gunshot somewhere one night last week. About this time of night. Never did hear anything about what it was but I also didn't get up and go outside. I have a couple of firearms right here by me just in case something gets this close. :-)

The witch's circle won't be the night of the wedding. We will spend that night at the beach house. The beach house can sleep some in a pinch.... especially if the party runs late and folk shouldn't drive, but it isn't The Castle for space.

Hotel recommendations would be for The Inn At Gig Harbor for a really nice place, or Best Western Wesley Inn of Gig Harbor... particularly if you can share costs with Ruthy maybe. I want to say there would be room for ya at the house, because I don't want y'all spending a lot of $$$ on this trip. That is why I want to do the camping thing in the witch's circle for the rest. Not sure really, but plan in general is to come down here the next day (Sunday afternoon on?).

Well, out here it isn't that unusual to hear gunfire because some critter had the gall to trespass 'cross the yard. You know.... the "It was comin' right for us!" guys.

Gotcha! I am talking to Ruthy about our plans. I haven't had a chance to call her yet and talk it out but will be doing that in the next day or two.

I got fahklempt watching the PAX special tonight. I think Mel's use of an embodiment of Satan is going to be very effective. It is such a creepy figure in the movie, and you can see how the Devil can act in ways of which we're not even aware.

Can't say as I'm excited about seeing it, but fell I need to. I think I owe it to Jesus to at least be made aware of what he endured, even if it is special effects and makeup bringing a lot of it to life. It will seem real to me!

Last week was only the second time I've heard gunfire since I lived here. Only one shot. The first time was I think maybe the first summer and it was 3 shots if I recall correctly. It was a shotgun and in the afternoon. Neighbors were kinda freaked out but I figured somebody had a rattlesnake in the yard or something.

However, being from the country, I just tend to think that first. Never heard anything about the shots the first time either. I still think it likely it was a rattler.

Last week you'd said something about ecurbh not feeling well one day... He okay now?

There are cheaper hotels here in Tumwater for the rest of the week if June isn't shaping up to be great camping too. At either place, I don't think you will ~need~ to have reservations ahead of time.... I think you could play it by ear and walk in anywhere and get a room.

And we have a twin guest bed and a couch here. It is just not too swank here. If we have guests here, the outside is better!

I looked all over for the SAG awards, but didn't find them. Glad to hear the folks won the 'Ensemble' award! I didn't even know that was a category in any of these awards, but it seems tailor made for LOTR!

I am goin' to bed if we have solved ~any~ of the details that needed solving tonight!

I can't really get my head around where to house folks. It is a little bit more complicated that we live 40 miles from the beach house.... it is VEY driveable, but I can't picture right now where I am gonna be ~when~. I would imagine I will be running back and forth between here and there a lot. I don't know where I will want to be or which days I will have a farm sitter tending horses. In June they can at least be left outside on pasture. That makes it MUCH easier to think of leaving them than ~now~.

Not just brutality, but hours of it. It isn't good for me.

You're soft-hearted, like me. You can't conceive of brutality to a cat, dog, or horse, much less another human. Neither can I. But evil in this world is attracted to brutality as one of the "fringe benefits" of being evil.

The Roman empire institutionalized brutality as a way of keeping its political system going. Give the masses enough vicarious brutality by way of the gladatorial games, and they'll become quiescent, just like from watching too much network TV. The downside was, the more the public got used to casual brutality, the less they wanted to serve in their own military. That brought the downfall of Rome, along with the rise of Christianity as an antidote.

Iraq is a brutal society, as was Germany and Japan. They are being given a chance by America to become un-brutal.
