I finished the story I have to turn in week after this for class. It needs polishing, but the words are there... decided after consideration that the professor doesn't want a story where things happens, he wants a character-driven story. So I gave him one. It also serves as the first 2500 words of the rewrite of my current project (got inspired to fix the major problems with the piece...)

My degree will be in Computer Science (supposedly with a side of mathematics but I'm having some trouble with that bit) and I will be continuing in CS at the graduate level. I cannot wait. So many of my college classes have been boring, though I always try to get everything I can out of it. Like, if a professor uses a book to make a point, I'll try to find and read the book.

Sounds like how I survived the boredom of my undergraduate classes :) I spent a lot of time tracking down footnoted sources to see where the authors I was reading were getting their information from. Anyway, what classes are you taking this semester--anything interesting?

Doomsday Book is about a historian who travels back through time to the Middle Ages - 1300s - to conduct research on what life was like then. Also there's a subplot set in the future, with her support team dealing with problems there. Unlike a lot of time travel books, it's not really about the travel, it's about the period where she is. The characters are so real, it feels like you've been there.

That sounds like it could be fun :) Does this book have anything to do with that movie that came out recently about a team of archaeologists/historians travelling back to the Middle Ages?--I forget the title, but I think it was out as recently as the end of last year.

This semester is Artificial Intelligence, and Writing of Fiction. Both are interesting at times.

The movie you're thinking of is "Timeline". Doomsday Book is to Timeline as... Lord of the Rings movies are to Willow.

Is this the same story you were talking about before? Let me know when you're ready to have someone take a look at that. I have one I'm polishing up that I'll probably show you in the near future--just don't be too rough on it, it's only a first draft! :)

That sounds like a pretty good course load. I read a decent book on AI and robotics back in 1992 (Maureen Caudill, In Our Image: Building an Artifical Person), but I imagine the field has advanced rapidly since then. A class on that sounds like good fuel for SF creativity.

Thanks for the review! :) I'm looking forward to trying that when the weather warms up a bit. We've got lots of room to run here, only problem is there's a lot of dogs in the yards along the road and they like to chase whatever goes by, LOL!
