The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I'm almost never able to be on the computer in the evening. My son has too much homework now. Lucky me.

Looks to me like they've got a good anchor stone to serve as not only the bottom step, but also it *also* has to be the deep footing for the bulkhead as a whole. Its too deep to be any other step but the bottom one.
If it is just an irregular surface on the top... I can easily reshape it with a chisel and the small sledge hammer. It's granite. It's like working in solid wood. the inside looks like the outside.
To: HairOfTheDog
Did he say why the concrete is still in place at the end? Looks like they haven't removed the walkway yet? Any reason for that?
To: Corin Stormhands
Hah, you are so at the ready.

I don't know why they are setting stone before removing the whole old bulkhead.... Maybe they need to move the Cat over to do it and want to finish on one side first?

And the psycho guy didn't appear on my rolls for this quarter! :-)Thank goodness for that!
I gots me a King Cake in the oven! We're having a Mardi Gras party this weekend, and I've made King Cakes before but they always ended up too heavy! I tried the recipe I used last year, but did the first part in the bread machine! It will be done in about 30 minutes and I'll let you know how it came out! I even gots the little plastic baby to put in it!

What I really worry about it that he'll be such a pest that they will start hurrying and rushing the job just to get away from him. That's why Dan always says he likes to do jobs while they're away on vacation. The finished product always comes out great, but the process is an ugly thing.
I'm sure that it is quite bad enough that he's videotaping the whole thing. If I were a contractor it would terrify me that I'm being taped every minute I'm on the job. That's just an OSHA lawsuit waiting to happen. So everybody is tense all day while they work, knowing that that everything is going to be reviewed in detail and in slow motion. Sheesh.

you're bailing out??? Well... nite nite....
Sorry, got sidetracked on rocks. :-)

A quick "hi" and "catch up". . .MBY, glad things are better with your mom and all. Will continue to pray.
So sorry about all the "throw ups" today. Know that is no fun. Will pray. Corin so happy you still have your kidney. I hear the market value for kidneys will be better a little later in the year, if you can wait. (sorry, bad joke...it's late)
My cousin called today about Mel's movie. . .we got into a discussion. Aimee' is still "in a mood" and didn't want to pay any attention to me, so to amuse myself, I went "on line" for some materials to send to my cousin about Mel's movie. Somehow I ended up in some Jewish/Christian realm here on FR carrying on about Mel's movie and Isreal and other vaguely related topics. At one point I think they "pinged" a Zionist group or something. Goodness, this movie has got folks all stirred up.
Hair what in the heck are ya'll doing with all the cement?

Heh.... Yeah - I hope they think he is just really interested in the process.... this is a big deal and what they do for a living is neat.
We know from experience that getting through a job with everyone happy in construction is easier said than done.
To: HairOfTheDog
You mentioned that the rocks were being stepped back with each course. Would that create a set of large 'steps'? Or could you use them as seating?

Nope. I will be bailing shortly but not quite yet. I'm following along on your rock concerns. Sounds like it's not a very good week for you to be away like you said. *sigh*
Anyway, can I come watch you chisel away on that bump? I think I'd like that!

They take the concrete away.... prolly dump it in a deep spot.... maybe under the Narrows... there is a whole bridge down there, they'd never notice a few more chunks o concrete! ;~D
To: Wneighbor; SuziQ
Oooooh ice cream. You two always got something going good to eat. I had a TV dinner and I don't want to remember what it was. How are ya'll?

OK! I'll take pictures! I just now figured out what food I want to serve. I try to do Creole or Cajun, or at least Seafood. I found a neat recipe tonight. You split a fresh jalopeno, stuff a shrimp into it, wrap it with bacon and broil it! They're called "Afterburners", and when I read the recipe to SSQ, he said "YEAH!" I'll also do Scallops wrapped in bacon, cause I like those!
I always have TOO much food, but I'd rather that, than not enough! We've invited 7 couples and Father Dennis from our Parish. We've been doing this for years, and we always have a great time!
Now I've gotta clean my house; at least the downstairs! ;o)

I think we might be able to have seating all the way across, yes... Especially for young folks that can scramble around on them. It might be fine! Will be able to picture better when they lay the second course down. Just seating on various rocks instead of just steps!
In that last pic I posted you can see what it used to be - with the concrete steps that went all the way across... It'll just be new.... you know how conservatives hate change!
