The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Of course bein' a brother he also substitutes "heifer" for that cow often. And we'll be in a store - like the Super Walmart or the mall down in Bryan and he'll holler across the store or mall, "Hey you two heifers get over here!"
Us, UT supporters are not popular in Bryan/College Station, HOME of Texas A&M.
But, my sister-in-law and I have been known to cruise around campus playing The Eyes of Texas really loud even the weekend of the game.... course we were under the influence of stuff too... and nobody ever caught us.

Heh...I bet even Twiggy's brothers called her fat. Heck, my brothers did even when I was 12, just about my full height, and prolly thirty or forty pounds less than I weigh now. It's in the brother rule book somewhere.
To: RosieCotton
For the times I lived at home my brother always teased me mercilessly about that. My mom was so into the beauty thing that when I was there I was on a *constant* nazi diet. She'd make dinners and put what I could have on my plate and that was it. Never any starches, not much fried foods. Lots of salads and veggies - which I always liked... but still, the rest of the family was eating all the other stuff. Brothers made it worse.

OK, I'm feelin' a little shaky, though it's silly.
Just had a student call to say his computer wasn't working and when could we fix it. Now...we don't do repairs on student PCs. We help them get set up on the network, we offer some phone support, we have helped occasionally with virus removal, but that's it...for legal reasons we just don't do hardware repair on student machines - for one thing, if anything were to happen, we could be liable, and the machines aren't ours.
So...usually when someone calls about that I tell them nicely why we can't help them, help them get the phone number for their PCs support line if need be, or otherwise give them the numbers of the local PC repair places that are listed in the phone book.
This guy was cranky about that, but seemed to take it. Then five minutes later he shows up down here with his computer and says "You guys look at this." Insists on dumping it off even though I tell him we won't work on it. Was really kinda scary.
I set it down and right away told one of the guys here who told him to come get it. He isn't happy. But he did come and get it.

> Oh, no ... Roarke as described is a dead ringer for the younger (Remington Steele-era) Pierce Brosnan:
"Remington Steele" was one of my favorite shows when it was on. I always thought he'd be a great Bond. Too bad he's not doing another movie.
I'm behind on my threads this morning, just skimmed to catch up--y'all have transitioned from mysteries to catfish, I notice :) (BTW speaking of mysteries, anybody here like "Columbo"?--I usually have that on in the background about this time on weekdays.) Gotta step out for a bit now, but I'll be back later this afternoon. Hope everyone is having a great day!

I'm glad my mom was NOTHING like that. Her only comment on the subject when it came up was that I was "healthy" and "sturdy" rather than thin. Sigh. Sturdy...guess that's hobbit-like, right?
To: RosieCotton
Rosie, you've got nothing to worry about. Twiggy is not attractive to a normal guy.

Of course!
Speaking of sturdy...I can't WAIT to get in good shape so I can (hopefully) do plenty of hiking this summer! The snow can't melt soon enough...I want my trails back!
Dad just got some snowshoes. Guess he got tired of waiting. I've never tried that...may go try 'em out this weekend.
To: Wneighbor
Oh! okay...1960's maybe that is why I am clueless
To: RosieCotton
Hiking in snowshoes sounds like it might be fun... if you can figure out how! Of course I'd be a duck outta water there. LOL
