The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

> Not exactly mysteries, but police procedurals featuring New York Police and Security Department's Lieutenant Eve Dallas and the oh-so-sexy and mysterious multi-gazillionaire Roarke (one name only). They're set in the year 2050, and are a great ride. But they are gritty crime novels --- lots of blood, gore, death and sex.
Thanks for the info! Roarke isn't played by Ricardo Montalban, is he?--LOL! Seriously, sounds interesting, esp. the 2050 setting.
Well, heading to bed soon here, but nice to meet everyone today! G'night, all!

Well, I just got the troop packages all boxed up. Ran out of customs forms for the last 2 though. AND forgot to photograph the contents of one box before taping it all up. Ya'll are just gonna have to let me tell ya what the customs form listed for that one. I'm to tired to open, photograph and reseal! :-)

Oh, no ... Roarke as described is a dead ringer for the younger (
Remington Steele-era) Pierce Brosnan:
Roarke has longer hair, though ... and more money.

Oh dear! Ya did that to me just before I'm going to bed!

Da Bear says until the early Nineties his hometown only had to dial 5 digits: 5-xxxx. Nowadays, you have to dial the whole 265-xxxx. Bummer! Heh...that happened here, too, though it was earlier...early eighties, I guess. I remember calling my friends using just five digits when I was pretty little - an 8 and then the phone number.

Rosie, I know you like mysteries, and a little science fiction --- may I recommend the J. D. Robb In Death series? Writin' that name down...I'll look!
To: Rose in RoseBear
But they are gritty crime novels --- lots of blood, gore, death and sex. Hm...I dunno if that sounds good or not. Guess I'll have to read one and find out. Blood, gore and death I can handle to a point, but if there's a lot of seduction...no thanks.

There is a new one. Saw it in the store right after Christmas. It was okay. I liked some of the older novels better.
I sold almost all of my Stephen King, Belgariad, and Deryni books to the half-price store when I moved out of mom's house. The only ones I have left are the hard backs. Now, I wish I had them for reference with this new Deryni novel.

I never turn down Mexican! I don't think we have got anything goin that would interefere with a Fort Worth Moot in the near future. Let us know when and we can prolly be there no prob.
PE, can you think of anything we have got going on soon that might hinder plans for a moot?

Good morning!
In the almost 2 weeks of owning my cell phone (I share my parents 1000 minutes, plus nights and weekends are free)...I used 12 minutes total! Woohoooo! My mom (who I believe was a bit anxious about it) was very pleased and I anticipate the minutes will only decrease, because the first Monday I had it, I forgot I wasn't on Weekend minutes anymore and made a five-minute call!
The idea is that I use it to screen calls during the day when I'm home on the computer...use it briefly if needed during the times when I'm away from the house, and then chat away in the evenings and on the weekend. Made a 45 minute call to MIL and didn't cost a cent last weekend!

My problem is that with both the Deryni and the Shanara books I stopped buying them and our library sytem in our county is not very thorough. So I'm not exactly sure where I left off with either.

gotta get that child gate up at the top of the steps... heh...we took ours down right before the chair lift was installed.
sorry about the pukin'. hope they get feelin' better and that they're not inclined to share.

Yep. At the old place we only dialed 5 numbers until about 10 years ago. I know it went to 7 numbers after I married Dennis and that was in 1994.

Okay, I'm waiting for Bear and Rose to chime in on the Mexican Ft. Worth moot. I've got something tentative coming up both weekends with Myranda but depending on what she comes up with it might fit right in with mooting. She's thinkin' o' going to Gainsville to visit that guy. She said she'd like for me to come over and spend some time with them. wow.
