The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Oh, it's not a surprise trip. Had this one lined up since before the jury duty thing. Have meetings about figuring out compliance with the new Sarbanes-Oxley law.

Ever heard of it? It's evil. Mounds of mindless stupid paperwork that nobody will ever look at. I know why I've always hated Sarbanes.

Nope. I never heard of that. But, from years of engineering... compliance with things having to do with strange laws... are not fun.

Knew you'd said you had to go to SF sometime after FL. Didn't know it was something this nasty. But, guess this means you don't think you have to worry 'bout your boss. :-)

Not too worried, but he's always sort of a random force. Sometimes for good, sometimes not. Depends what sort of pressure he's under.

I try to be an insulator to pressure on my group, and I used to think that he was a conductor of pressure. I've since decided that he's a capacitor of pressure. You don't see anything coming for a long time and then POW. :-)

Apparently they're all "scarred up"... how's that? they're rocks... and granite at that.

If you ever find out the difference between "good rocks" and "bad rocks", please let me know. It's one of those vital subjects I have always taken for granite.

the rocks we get are the rocks we get

Oh NO!

~ZAP~

I did not like being a supervisor much. The people who worked for me *mostly* liked having me supervise. I think I was fair. And I think I cushioned them. (then there's those that don't work that you can't seem to ditch) I got a lot of good reports and feedback from my guys and gals. People asked to be transferred to me. They *seemed* sincerely sorry to see me go. But, I don't think I'm wired up for that kind of personal stress on myself. I work well under pressure of engineering stuff (prolly kinda thrive on it)... but people pressure stuff is not that way. Sometimes you can be fairly good at something without being cut out for it... ya know.

and I did it with no problems.

I thought this quote from Galadriel "fit"! I was commenting on your skill with the framing and such! No need to blush or apologize! ;-)

That reminds me (you'll know it when you see it), I highly recommend "Galaxy Quest"

"Rock! Rock! Rock! Rock!"

Hehhehehe... I love that movie. Of course, some of it hit a little too close to home...

Hey! I tried to call you earlier, had a question about the sewing. I figured it out though.

Apparently there are a couple of widths of cloth that I can choose from...54/60

Who knew?

I like my clothes line too 2J! It was one of the homey things I liked about this house when I got it. Just a little thing... that says "home."

LOL!!! It comes in 36 and 45 too 2J. Wider widths are nice cause you don't need so many yards to do things. AND you can fit larger pieces on the fabric. Depends on the mill what the width is.

Ummm.... sorry, I didn't hear the phone! I have it plugged in way at the other end of the house. I know I can't hear it where I am... but keep forgetting to grab it when I walk back there. *Sorry!*

I was afraid I'd come across as slightly crazy on your voicemail, but that 54/60 number had me plumb bumfuzzled.

Steve would put those posts up for me if we could find them! They are homey!

These are just iron pipes that are welded at the top. I'm sure somebody just welded 'em up and stuck 'em in the ground here. They're very old... there was a tree that had partially grown around the pipe on the far end but a bad storm took out the tree (and 2 others) Christmas before last. Clothes line posts were fine though... even though the tree fell all around it.

I think I may be the worst supervisor ever. I hate being responsible for other people's work, their routine, and in many ways, their happiness with their job. I tend to ignore too many problems hoping that they will just go away. Problem is... sometimes they do go away. But when they don't they've then had a chance to fester just a little too long.
