The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I do too... cold and wet really blows... no rain gear, no cold weather gear... We got here the first week of November. We were suprised to get issued new Rain gear, Poncho, and Gortex tops and bottoms. We had to pack lightly for the plane and packed it all away. Little did we know that is was cold and rainy here and our stuff did not show up for nearly a month. Typical Army logistics sent it to the wrong camp. Then to top it off the heaters we brought had been banished by the DA for being a fire hazzard, so we had no heat either. Things are together now though. Heat, lights, and a dry building.

I sent some pictures to 300winmag to sort through and see what he wants to post. My wife is working on getting the rest on disk, so more to come.

We had to dig a moat around our tent so the water won't come into the tent As far as I can remember the Army has never made a "Dry" tent. We took ours right out of the crate and put them up. It looked like a planetarium inside there, with all the holes in the roof.

It looked like a planetarium inside there, with all the holes in the roof. But Gunny Ermie, on "Mail Call", is showing all this neat stuff you guys are just about to get, like leakproof tents with poles in the walls, rather than the middle. They even have portholes for airconditiong and heat. Probably even wireless internet access built in. And they're "just around the corner".
I suspect most of that stuff is stored in Kuwait, where vast supply depots either can't find it, or won't send it out because it's so new, they have to count and inventory it for a few years to see if it stays in one place. And that's just how they treat the Regular Army.

Wow! What a game last night, huh? Quite the nail-biter towards the end, but I'm glad the Pats got the chance to bring home another win!
And the Homer Simpson MasterCard commercial was...well...priceless. lol
I can hardly believe that we're all already on the sixth version of the Hobbit Hole! Sorry I missed the inauguration the other day, and was only able to pop in and say a quick hello...but this weekend was a busy one. Now, it's back to work for another busy 5 days. The fun never ends.
I took Autumn sledding again on Saturday morning, since the weather was so nice, and since she had such a wonderful time on Thursday when I took the day off. Then, bought a new corner-style computer desk for the den, so I spent most of the day putting that together, and re-arranging the room. Once I got it home, of course. It was a rather long box, and just barely fit into the car. After laying the back seat down, and bringing the box in through the trunk, I had to push both driver and passenger seats ALL the way up, as far as they'd go to get the box to fit in completely. So, here I am trying to drive home, knees pressed up against the dashboard, keys digging into my leg, head pressed up against the visor, and arm draped over the steering wheel. It was quite the sight, and I got more than a few odd looks on my way home.
I took the old computer armoire and re-figured it to become a TV stand, and was FINALLY able to chuck the old TV stand, which was becoming more and more dangerous with each passing day. lol. That was Saturday.
Sunday - I'm proud to say that Autumn had SUCH a great "first" time at church yesterday. She didn't want to leave, and is very much looking forward to going back next week. I must say it felt a little wierd for me going back to the church that I hadn't been in for over 10 years, but it was a much welcomed experience. Now that we're closer to the church, and given that Autumn took so well to it, we're going to become regular members again.
To quote a wise man - "So I got that goin' for me."
Now, off to catch up on the 540+ posts that I've missed.

Wow! All caught up.
Suzi and Corin - Buku prayers coming your way. (Corin - are you SURE you've never run afoul of a rogue Gypsy somewhere in your life, and the hex is just catching up to you now? lol)
Wneighbor - Ouch! It's tough getting beat by one's vehicle. How's your noggin' this morn'n?
Bear - "Yeeeaaaaaahhh...didja get that memo on the TPS reports? I'll just go ahead and get you another copy, m'kaaay?" (I have a boss who is EXACTLY like Lumbergh...and twice as annoying). I love Office Space...just bought it on DVD last weekend.

Good morning, early risers!
Monday...oooh goody. But I'm havin' an omelet with horseradish cheddar and onions, and it's goood. And work should be calmer this week than last. Except for the user I put off...gotta switch out her computer on Tuesday, and she wants to watch all of it, so it won't be a simple bring both computers down to our work area, network 'em, copy data over. Unless I bring her there, too....which wouldn't make me very popular, and she probably wouldn't agree to it.
Sigh.
Other than that, it should be a great week!

G'morning...
Bear, I did watch Office Space. It was scarily true. Fortunately my work enviroment is better than that, now... we got rid of the one boss of doo-OOO-ooo-OOOOmmm last summer...
Ugh, it's Monday and I've got to get to work soon.

Morning, Rosie.
I have to be at the client site all day, so I won't be around.... sigh... I'd much, much rather be here. Or at the office. Oh well, that's why they pay me, right?
Another ten minutes and I'll be leaving. At least it's not snowing today.

I'm getting ready to step out, too.
We're supposed to get snow and/or sleet and freezing rain between tomorrow night and Wednesday afternoon. Goody. Potential for six inches or snow, which would be preferable to ice! We'll see, I guess.

omelet with horseradish cheddar and onions*droolng*
Just coffee here. Autumn woke up around 5:30 having to go to the bathroom, and didn't want to go back to sleep. Since Jess worked late last night, and I don't have to go in to work today until 11, figured I'd let her sleep in.
Doin' some FReepin', drinkin' some coffee, Autumn's playing quietly with her LeapPad...doesn't get much better n' this.
