The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I loved those powder burns... give yuh an idea of what hell is... heh heh... kamikaze bugs...We always saved a few powder increments for starting campfires, but SOP was to burn them at the end of the day. We fired about 100 rounds a day of 155mm, most of it at low charges, so there was A LOT of powder to burn.
Normally you'd cut open a bag, and pour it out in a line in the middle of a dirt road, then touch it off with a piece of burning paper. One day, there was a lot more powder than usual to burn, and nobody was off duty, and on Miller Time, until the burning was done. Someone started a small brush fire in the road, stood back, and pitched a whole bag into the fire. Got a big blaze, and a loud WHUMP out of it, but no explosion like in the movies. Smokeless powder does not explode, but will detonate if hit with a vey large blast wave. But it just burns REAL fast when unconfined.
Oh, and cannon powder looks a lot like rifle powder, except the sticks are much bigger, and they're not coated with graphite. Their natural color is a light tan.
Anyway, all the gun bunnies thought this was good way to finish quickly, so soon everyone was trying their hand at the underhand toss. By now I had my camera out, and by sheer chance snapped a picture just as several bags burned at once. I got a picture of a column of flame about 200 feet high (twice as high as the trees), and felt a blast of hot air on my face. And I was standing WAY behind everybody else.

Hehehe... it was great to get out of class and hear that on Rush... hehehe...
I dislike Ketchup Kerry. Maybe if he goes away, my dad will let us buy Heinz again (there's been a household ban on that for the last few years...)

I have seen many antics by the gun bunnies...They once "borrowed" our truck, hidden in a thicket near our track, to drive from gun to gun, picking up the .50 cal to take back to the weapons tent, rather than hump them across the field.
But then it was chow time, so they left the truck, and the weapons, and headed for the chow line.
A couple of other gun bunnies decided to skip chow, and take the truck to the middle-of-nowhere party store for beer and poagie bait, not knowing or caring that there were six machineguns sitting in the open in the back.
The first we knew there was a problem was the First Sergeant came storming into the tent on the back of our track, demanding to know where our truck and his ma deuces were. He had the two clowns digging 6x6x6 holes for the rest of summer camp when he caught them.

I'm here. Sorta. In between dealing with bank weasels. (What do you mean, the transaction didn't go through until today? It said it went through last night, that's a serious glitch in your system!) and working... and ugh, I've got to get back to school in an hour.

It's sunny, windy and 29 degrees. I have three loads of laundry on the line!
My back is ok as long as I don't sit for too long.

Bank weasel???
Ive never had anyone call me that. Is that in intellectual term?
To: PurpleQ
No, I just mean that the explanation was so weasel-y that they reminded me of weasels. Actually, the girl was pretty helpful, it's just a stupid policy they've got.

For the most part, I hate policies.
Unless it's stuff like saying that students can only bug us for certain things. I like those.
I think I may be getting that stomach bug, but I'm trying to pretend I'm not.

Oh, dear, I hope you don't get it!
Woke up with this sore throat and told myself I had to get over it. It's not the weekend, so I can't be sick.
Ooops, class time!

I'm hoping I'm just feeling slightly ill because I know others are sick and it's all just mental.
Tonight is a rest night...I can just goof off. Sorta. Gotta trade back Van-sama at some point.
Where is everyone today?
To: PurpleQ
Hey Mija! Still here? How is everything in the nice part of the country today? :-)
