The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

One of the guys in the fishing club has cancer, and is getting chemo, a fellow only about my age.

So the guys decided that the way to make him feel better would be to roast him. Which they did last night at the meeting. He had to get up in the front of the room, in front of 75 guys and be made fun of.

Since the chemo has made him lose all his hair, but especially he lost it (apparently) in an area that might not be polite to discuss on a family forum.

So, in front of everyone he was presented with a small blond wig, just the right size for that area, along with a larger one for his head, with cornrows and a scratching tool for a spot not to be named here. Lots of off color jokes for awhile. The whole room was in hysterics, and the 30 or so guests couldn't believe what they were seeing. Neither could the guest speaker, who had to go on next, a fairly famous skiff guide.

Anyway, I think the guy with cancer was kind of happy, everyone made alot of fuss over him, it was quite a nice thing.

Barry that's very touching. I'm glad you guys could get together and have a really fun time with your friend. We'll be praying for this one too. It is good to celebrate life while we have it isn't it?

That's funny... while of course it is a serious matter to deal with cancer... it's good in some way that some lightheartedness can be made of it.

I'm just about down to the wire myself. Prolly won't be up too much longer. Getting the dog out for one last time and shutting things down.

But, up a bit longer. :-)

Did you see Colin Powell today in *that* hearing? It was a beautiful thing. He really spanked the dems something fierce.

No, what happened?

Those Democrats deserve at minumum a spanking, they are more vicious even than I remember.
It's hard to imagine such viciousness will play well with the public, but I don't pretend to really know what the public will do. Or my own wife, for that matter. No, just kidding about her, she's not that predictable, but I've known her for awhile now.

After GW, General Powell is probably the Republican with the highest stature, I think.

Packing now, leaving the house @ 05:30 tomorrow, heading for Syracuse.

Powell was testifying to some congressional committee. I don't recall the exact committee. But the poor bastard democrat (I think his name was "Brown") tried to slip in some comment about Bush being "awol" from his service in the ANG and Powell spanked him pretty bad.

"I'm not going to dignify that remark with a response" was how it began with Powell, and it got a little steamier after that. Powell was brilliant. He also went on to pretty well defend the whole "intel failure" question. At one point he said "We didn't make this stuff up..." He was really strong, I thought.

The worm turns...

I'd like to have heard that. Frequently when he speaks I'd like to give that guy a standing ovation. He says what I wanna hear mostly... only a lot more articulately than I would. Pretty good at that old country thing of tellin' 'em how the cow ate the cabbage. 't's a good trait.

Wish I'd seen it.
