The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I've been noticing how fast time is going by... do you realize that 1/8 of this year is already past?

Nah, it was all downhill after DOS 2.2

Then things got complicated.

I programmed a database on it to keep track of my comic books.

Amazing how much one could do in 16k of RAM back then.

Oh, I still have it, in a closet up in Michigan. I'll have to take some pics when we go back up there.

Yeah. 40 is still very young, though.

I have a lot of birthdays I can't remember. But, I know that I know that everyone of them have been celebrated well! Ask PurpleQ next time you see her around. My birthdays are stuff of legends! :-)

Oh man, You seriesly have never heard it called that before?

'Tis a hugh euphemism and a threat to the one getting talked to.

I dunno, maybe it is a Southern thing, cuz I know that everyone I grew up with ~knows~ what a "come to Jesus meeting" is all about.

The QM is mainly in charge of navigation. Signalling is an afterthought. This was most obvious in times when we actually had to *do* signalling with our signalman counterparts on navy ships. We tended to do semaphore or flashing light r e a l l y s l o w... because the standard was: don't send any faster than you can read, and I could only read r e a l l y s l o w. :-)

5.0 was wonderful!

First version to have a full-screen editor... no more EDLIN!

Ohhh, and it was so much easier to access RAM above 640k... the fun I had optimizing HIMEM loads!

I think you just proved my point!

Story behind that rule was that right about this time last year my Grama looked at me very sadly and said, "for the first time in my life I don't feel young anymore." She was 85. OT and I decided that rule would stick - forever. We're all young till at least 85.

EDLIN blew chow in chunks through the nose. Hated it even then.

Nobody will ever need more than 640K. Silly, that.

LOL!

No, I got fascinated with how much info on the ZX-81 computer there is out on the web.

I think it's bedtime for me though, so I'm going to toddle off.

Good night!
