The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

After standing watches for many hours without the ability to leave the bridge... and drinking copious amounts of coffee the whole time... I now have a bladder the size of a basketball.
It ain't the greatest skill in the world, but it's sumthin.

Of course.... what else?

Hey...I can actually check in for a moment. One of the busiest weeks yet. Solving many of Tacoma's problems and all that. At least that's my story.

This is one of the coolest LSR record cars. It's electric powered. A two-way average of 245.524 mph.
The driver, Pat Rummerfeld is a quadrapalegic!
He was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident at about age 20. He decided he didn't want to be paralyzed, and after working for months, was able to walk again. doctor still can't explain his recovery. He runs full marathons to keep in shape.

Jen, girlfriend, have you ever even seen Windows 3.1? What languages do you code?Amateur. I have a 1960 manual for the IBM 88 collator. I even remember seeing those things in the old days. Never could figure out how they worked. Maybe I'll read the manual.
I think I have a 1955-vintage manual for and IBM 650 around here somewhere. When the school took a donated IBM 650 back in the late 1960s, we quickly convinced them they did NOT want to use it. Had the power of a moderately-healthy programmable calculator.
Instead, we got to strip it for scap. I got some of the nameplates somewhere, but the but prize was the half-horse motor that spun the 10K drum memory. It is still powering my dad's table saw.

Hey Scott! Good to hear from you. I really had a great time on Saturday. I hope I didn't bore you too much with storytelling? It was big fun.
But I never *did* get around to the deep discussion of the Brame case... dang it. :-)

After bein' harrassed about whether I could "ride with the big dogs" for years I determined that nowhere, no time would anything EVER cause me to stop the pack for ANYTHING.
I had a bit of a problem with that only once when several bees flew into my shirt. Fortunately I wasn't the only one that got hit... there was a town coupla miles ahead. (A miracle in itself in west Texas) The lead bike swung into the parking lot and I had my T-shirt off before the kickstand went down. LOL.... no indecency.. I was wearin' a tank top under it! One of the guy's wives went in the bathroom with me and there were 8 bee stings! And they were in places that were not meant to be treated like that! YEEOUCH!!! That convenience store also had a nice tube of Cortaid! :-) Which was reapplied at every stop for the rest of the trip!
But no, the guys have never ever once had to stop for me. Mechanical failure doesn't count cause it happens to all of us.

Had a great time...don't remember a single moment of boredom! Remember a lot of brews...

Holy cow... Sorry dude, but any IBM "big iron" with a three-digit model number is waaay before my time. :-)
You win, hands down. My experience with big iron began with the Amdahl 7000 that WSU had in the computer center there.

Remember a lot of brews... I remember that there were a lot of brews, though I'm not too clear on each and every one of them. :-)
So what the scandal de jour?
To: Professional Engineer
I like that guy!!!
Don't know if you knew this or not, but in 1991 I was told by doctors that I would be completely paralyzed in both arms within 5 years. Guess what! It's been 13 years! And they just call it an unexplained miracle! I love it. It's GOD!
