The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Well, I have 2 novels in my office. And some short stories in my office drawer here. I save those for when I'm bored out of my gourd while students are working and not asking questions and the thread is dead!
I could read those. Perhaps I should post a photo of the stack of textbooks I have to review in the next couple of months though! It's about 2 - 1/2 feet tall.

The remaining instructor is an adjunct and as such doesn't have access to all the building. Ah...OK. Hadn't thought of that possibility.
I have a key that works in just about every door in the main buildings on campus - all but the residence halls. On the one hand, it's very convenient...on the other hand, if I was ever to lose that key, I could be fined a LOT. Like thousands. 'Cause they'd theoretically have to rekey everything.
I am MOST careful with my key!

Going to be gone a few minutes. Gonna call the security service now and tell 'em to lock that only door for the night. Class shoulda begun 10 minutes ago. Nobody oughtta be comin' in now. And I can sit and wait.... for them to leave.

That happened to us with keys. That's why they're so stringent in the rules about them now. Last year a part-time person lost one of the master keys. Everything was re-keyed. Cost thousands. I'm pretty sure I coulda done it myself for lots cheaper! But, now, only the 6 of us permanent instructors and the 2 maintenance people have keys.

At my college, maintenance people, security and IT are the only ones with much access. Instructors have access to their own offices, and some to their areas - like the science folks have keys to the science labs.
It seems to work pretty well, but I still worry about my keys!

55 days to fitness, huh? Glad you figured that out!
I'm looking forward to getting home and hitting the treadmill. 'Course, once I'm done, I hafta go do homework that's due tomorrow, but oh well... it'll be relaxing. Or at least, something different.

I think you only have 53 or so...can't remember when you started.
I'm just figuring on eight weeks...but it'll probably actually take me longer to reach the three mile point. I can try! Gotta head to church...be back in a little over an hour...
To: RosieCotton
I started Monday.
See you when you get back! I should be exercising at that point, actually.

Yeah. Keys. Not having our keys on our person at all times when we're here is a firing offense. IOW - ya can't just be leaving the things lying around. I mean, ya'll already know we don't have security people here. And since it's just "us" we need to have access to every part of the building when it ends up like now and we gotta cover everything.

Okay.... I'm locked up. And now it's textbook time! Starting on 2 different choices in engineering graphics. I'll see if there's a plot to any of these!

Actually. I found a new one that I've never seen before that I am REALLY liking! It's makin' me kinda itchy to go back to work and get my fingers into design again! Really cool.

Luke is in denial. He does not want to be four!
To: JenB
Ummm... I also forgot to mention that Celia, in all her kindheartedness, knowing that I would be up here for several hours with nothing to do tonight - bought me a HUGH box of donut holes this afternoon! LOL
So, I'm having donut holes with my textbooks!

He got all upset this afternoon when he realized he would be four and his cousin would still be three!
They're at church now, I'm heading out to work out. He'll be fine when we get to presents.
Later.
To: Corin Stormhands
He's precocious. Most people don't hit the "I don't want to be old" stage until they're thirty or so.
