The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

LOL

I know it! I want to be clear though...the guy, as rough as he looked, did a great job on my hair. He told me he's just going to cut men's hair and not do manicures. But still, he did a great job on mine.

Not much call for manicures in ~the joint~

Ok. Here is a picture of where he "got" me with the snips. See where the red arrow points to? I've washed my hands about a half dozen times, so it doesn't show up very good...

Now...I've posted a picture of one of my bo-bos, since you seem keen on wanted to see what my bo-bos look like. I don't ask you to post pictures of your bo-bos...but be that as it may...;-)

If you do set up such a Paypal account, I can add info to the Hobbit Hole website on how to contribute. In fact, I could also create a dedicated Hobbit Hole email address for such a thing too, if you don't want to use a "real" address.

It sounds like a great idea, although I think you should set up the PayPal account, since it IS your web site.

Oh, and someone told me they tried www.the-hobbit-hole-net, and didn't see anything. I told them to try freeper. But maybe there should be some link on the www page?

Well of course! - We lived through the manicure through you! - We need to see it! - Next time take your camera so we can see Charlie Manson the Cosmetologist and capture the whole scene.

I know that at one point I asked his age and he said he was fast approaching 40. I nearly fainted...he looked like he was fast approaching 75.

I was stunned to find I was older than him.

OK, I would be willing to do that. Would it be a Premier account or just the standard Personal? I looked at the Paypal site, and it looks like the benefit of the Premier account is that people can make credit card payments to us without needing a Paypal account. Is that correct? There is a a 2.9% transaction fee for that. How would this work, should we set up a seperate bank account to use? I'll check with my web host and make sure it supports secure pages.

Oh, and someone told me they tried www.the-hobbit-hole-net, and didn't see anything. I told them to try freeper. But maybe there should be some link on the www page?

Thanks, I have taken down the www home page and set it up as a redirect to the freeper site. I have basically lost interest in the www side of the site and will be taking it down for a while, except for the message board.

Had a big ol' purple bruise tho...

I think we want the top-of-line "business" account. That allows business names, and direct credit card payment from non-PayPal members. You could also set up a store in the non-profit section. They also have free shopping cart software.

I'm not sure you'll need secure services from your web host. You just have a link that redirects to the PayPal site. But the link pre-fills a lot of the user's info, making it quicker and easier to fill out the rest.

Isn't the Paypal account linked at the recieving end to a bank account with checks and/or debit card? How does the money transfer? Do they send checks? I don't know. To us, who don't need to handle the money, it would seem best for you or WN, i.e., the people actually coordinating and making purchases and such, to own the account....

Can you guys take us to school on Paypal?

Ditto! You have my bow. And before I lose my temper once again I'll shut up... for now.

OK, this conversation is pushing all the wrong buttons for me today. I'll check back later when I feel more rational.

I feel like I'm being told that just because I didn't happen to be born in the right place (was born in Oregon, if anyone is counting), I'm not allowed an opinion on "your" music...though I thought I made it clear I wasn't talking about ALL of country, just some of what passes for country.

I might add that Bear is just as much a "Yankee" as I am - though also just as much a lover of the music or more. Yes, I know that was said in fun and I'm overreacting.

< /soapbox off >

I'm touchy where music is concerned, OK?

On my personal account I collect or add money to my PayPal account. Then I transfer the funds electronically to my bank account when I want them (takes a few days).

I'm not sure how the Paypal credit cards work.

I don't think it means you can't have an opinion, I think it just means your opinion doesn't mean hooey because you can't know what you are talking about! </SARCASM!!>

They would and should discount my opinion too, because I am a yankee, and I am not even a fan. It's yippie-hoo for "my team" and ribbing of those on the other side. It is "My team rules and the other team drools" behavior. Over something as unimportant as whether country music is whiny.... I think it is not threatening to anyone's being or pride in themselves.... Shouldn't be!

We give each other our axes/bows/swords all the time over friendly ribbing..... relax Rosie!

PayPal buyers give a credit card number to PayPal. This is used to make a charge, and electronically transfer it to the seller. The advantage is the seller does not have to be authorized by the credit card company, but can still display credit card logos. And the processing fee the seller pays is about half what credit companies charge.

Buyers can also "link" their credit card to a bank checking account. This provides for "instant" transfer of funds, because PayPal sends a debit to the buyer's bank account. If it bounces, PayPal charges the credit card, instead. PayPal makes money on the modest fees they charge sellers, and on the "float" (usually about 3 days) between the time the seller withdraws the funds, and they appear electronically in his bank account.

All-in-all, pretty slick, and a good deal all along.

Oh dear...you and your adventures!

Well, I don't actively seek them, but am prone to them, apparently. I go out to fight a simple battle and come face to face with a Witch King!

sigh
