The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I'm like PE ... gotta have something over my head, at least to start. By morning, though, I either steal everything or kick it all off the bed.

Just sitting here, in front of my computer, waiting for you to post a picture.

I am a frustrated wanna-be artist ... what you described is sooooo cool!

And I don't embarrass easily ...

<hint, hint ...!>

That's what Leonardo said.

This may be an urban legend, but the story goes that DaVinci was working on the last supper. He spent an incredible amount of time working on the cup in Christ's hand.

An associate came in and said "The cup is beautiful, I can't take my eyes off of it."

DaVinci immediately took a brush and wiped clear all traces of the cup.

---- Could be legend, but it's a cool story. Feel free to use it for sermon illustrations. ;-)

------ But that also means I have to tell one of my favorite jokes...

Q. What did Jesus say to the disciples at the Last Supper?

A. If you want to be in the picture, sit on this side of the table.

What in the world do your colleagues drink, anyway?

Water - and the occasional Pepsi or root beer.

It's just WRONG, I'm tellin' ya!

Aren't you glad you had Van-sama to haul it home? Did you have to go far to get it?

Yes to both! It would have required much more planning if I hadn't had Van-sama. It actually wasn't THAT far, but in one of those towns that you "can't get to from here"...off the main roads. I had a little trouble finding their place, too.

They lived in one of those elderly um...I wanna say compound, but that doesn't sound right! Not a trailer park, neither...but they basically are trailers. Vey nice place, though. But they just plugged it into a regular outlet. It doesn't have a super heavy duty motor, so should be fine.

One of the main majors at the college where I teach is meteorology - one of the professors has that picture on his wall, with and explanation. I find it fascinating.

Even though I don't think I'd wanna go into that field, working at a place where there are so many people who love weather - any weather! - is pretty cool.

If you could see some of the people there ... the tattoos! The piercings! The electric-blue hair!

Heh...there's a freshman at the college like that...and he has the same name as one of the guys in my office. We tease him a bit about it. ;-)

Oh, and not only is his hair BLUE, it's also spiked in a mohawk. I thought that went out in the '80s...guess not!

"She writes like a woman, and by that I don't mean girly, or frilly"

Who else do you think writes like a woman, Rose? I was wondering what that means.

I sort of consider that Jen's favorite author, Connie Willis, writes "like a woman," as most of what's going on her books is told from the point of view of her female characters and their minds. But I'm not sure that the writing is feminine, although I suppose it must be.

I once read a mystery by a female, in which it was related that one of the male protagonists wore socks that matched his pants. That was a definite giveaway that the writer was female, since such a detail would never occur to, or be important to a guy, either the writer or the actual character itself.

That's cool. I think it's a fascinating subject, and treat it sort of as a minor hobby, as I figure most folks do who have spent very much time outdoors, especially on the water.

Morning thread!

Now they're sayin' that the Berserkers "may have been influenced by alcoholic beverages" before they went charging into war.

Just now the scholarly sort are figgering that out? Just a straw poll here, but how many of us rednecks woulda thought that? LOL

I would like that I think. Can't explain it, but the thing that is most missing from my existance here in the city is being able to just sit and watch the weather. Some of the *most* incredible things I have seen were just sitting in my front yard, looking northwest and watching northers blow in. The sky becomes the most *incredible* shade of blue. No wonder they're called blue northers! And I could just sit and watch them move in from miles away!

And in the spring... waiting for the showers. I don't know what makes it so but before the showers and afterward something is different and the colors on trees is different. A more vibrant and intense colors on the green of the foliage. And somehow, whatever the difference in the light is it *accentuates* the varying, intricate shades of green. There is no way to describe either of these things but completely worth sitting and watching and waiting for them to happen. Nothing compares.

*chuckling*

I've been asked numerous times if I ride my scooter like a woman... and then complimented because I ride like a man. This disturbs me greatly! Of course I ride like a woman... I am one! Riding with skill is genderless! BWAAAAHAHAHAHA!!! Biker guys hate it when I say that! :-D
