The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Marines didn't have stoves?

we ain't got the money... stoves were few and far between... they were like gold... and when they broke, they didn't get replaced...

We Will Rock you came out in the early 80s... I was rebellious too... but I was listenin' tuh Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Ozzy...

Was looking in the shopping bag that I have a few presents stored in for Jeanne...found 7 loose .45 cartridges rolling around in it! Don't think she wants those, which are going into the gun safe in a minute.

'Course a house doesn't really feel right without ammunition sort of all over the place. At least that's what it was like in the house I grew up in.

Hi! I've got my wings salted down for tonight, bread dough, rising, just made some pasta with vegetables, and the cat begs for wet food every time I go into the kitchen.

True enough Sam; those must have been 'much better days'. It has been acquired by Knight-Ridder. They still have a great looking building at the corner of 18th & Grand. Worked across the street from there from 1975 to 1980, then our outfit moved to S. KC.

Sounds like a great day on the ocean, glad you got a dolphin, should make a fine birthday dinner.

GMTA - LSA baked up some ginger snaps and was listening to the radio also. I was working on some arrows. Had the radio on as well, Prairie Home and then Thistle and Shamrock.

Well, needless to say, my time in Saudi Arabia was much more pleasant, for one thing, nobody was shooting. In 1980, I went over with a team from our firm, doing airport work north of Dharan, Jubail Industrial City. The "environmental assessment" could have been done with a couple of post card shots, it's a freaking desert. Sandy. Hot. A few date palms. Narrow roads. Lots of guys in thobes driving Mercedes Benz trucks way too fast. Gasoline was cheap. Food was expensive. Lots of prayer breaks during the day. It was an interesting experience and now I can check it off my life list.

gettin' ready to sing tonite at church... singin' Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior...

That's a beautiful song! One our church might even sing... we did And Can It Be (Amazing Love), and another Charles Wesley, and Holy Holy Holy today - one short because it was communion Sunday.

Then I took my sister back to school and I'm finally home. Friends are coming over for movie-and-football night...

To the computer. I have some of them burned to disk. I should burn all of 'em for backup.

Miss Cat gave up. She's snoozing on top of the kitchen cabinets.

You oughta be here! We're fixing wings... nice spicy wings... for the two of us who are stupid enough to try to stay on Atkins on Superbowl day. Oh well, I have wings, pepperoni, and some low-carb ice cream. So what there's chips, dips, cake, my favorite cookie-bar dish...
