The "whip" song isn't in the Bakshi LOTR. It's in the Rankin Bass Return of the King...another cartoon that doesn't have the rotoscoping but does have a very bad singer.

I must have missed it or muted it, but I missed the "Whip song"! Rats.

The songs are only in the Rankin-Bass versions of The Hobbit and Return of the King. I think you were watching the Bakshi version, right, with all the rotoscoping and the Boromir in the viking horns and mini-skirt?

Glenn Yarborough as the 'Minstrel of Gondor"!

I believe that was the end of his career in films. :)

I just found out some interesting 'extended family' news! The movie Monster was directed by Patty Jenkins, and it turns out that she is my brother, Gerry's, niece! She is the daughter of his wife's sister and his best friend from the AF Academy! They were married pretty soon after Gerry and his wife, but divorced about 10 years later. They had two daughters, and Patty is their youngest. I didn't even remember what she looked like, so when I saw her on TV at the Golden Globes, she didn't look familiar to me, and I wasn't connecting the name! Her dad died in a training accident when he was flying fighters in the AF when she was in her teens, and I hadn't seen her since. When he died, his new fiance was pregnant, and THEIR daughter became friends with Patty, and was her assistant on the movie. Gerry's sons (my nephews) are in the movie in bit parts. I was planning on getting it from Netflix when it comes out on DVD, so I'll have to look for them!

I must still be suffering from PTSD after seeing both of those cartoons. They've merged into one horrendous mess, and I can't tell them apart.

There weren't too many Scouts there, but that's fine. We had four boys, the Troop Committee Chairman, one of the Assitant Scoutmasters, in addition to me.

Father Dennis mentioned the Boy Scouts in his homily as being a good organization for helping young men build character. And he mentioned us later in the final Blessing, asking God's guidance for the boys and their leaders. I sent him an e-mail thanking him for both.

I need help here. I am trying to find movie locations for the The Passion of Christ. I know that I seen a thread here on RR that lead me to a site where I can type in my city and show what theatres are showing it. Now..I can't find it! Anyone have access to, or remember such a thread? Thanks!

You will NOT believe the weekend I have had.

I got a call at work from the school nurse at 2:00PM on Friday (I was scheduled to work until 6PM). She tells me Jeric is in her office screaming that his ear hurts and from the looks of it her has stuck a rock in his ear!!! She said it looks bad and needs to come out ASAP.

So I call his pediatrician and he said he does not have the tools it will take to get that out so we must take him to the ER.

We spend THREE hours there (needless to say I didn't make it back to work), they dig around in his ear while he screams bloody murder and find out there isn't anything the ER can do because they don't have an ear nose and throat specialist on hand. All they can do is confirm there is a rock in there and it has been there for a while. It is covered in wax and it has become stuck to the side of the ear canal. They give him some drops to numb the pain and give us a prescription that will begin to soften the wax and another for pain to get us through the weekend until Monday. They told us to call a specialist on Monday and make an appointment to get it removed.

I am like, You have got to be kidding me! I can not believe this is really happening!

We get home and I call mom and every other prayer warrior I know.................okay GOD ID SO GOD! Are you ready for this?????

Saturday morning we get up and I ask Jason to give Jeric his meds while I used the bathroom. Jason immediately starts screaming......Dana come here now the rock has come out! He had taken the cotton swab out of Jeric's ear and the rock was right there on the edge of his ear hole. We tell Jeric to turn his head over while I run to get some tweezers. We slowly and carefully pull out the rock!!!!! It was amazing.

I called mom and you know she was doing some holy rolling cart wheels and somersaults in her living room. Even Jason's mom was like, "Praise God"! I just knew I was going to have to take more time off work cuz of my crazy child. Between a rock in his ear, his toe getting stuck in the jet of the spa tub, breaking his teeth on candy, needing 4 crowns and 1 filling for a total of 7 crowns now....I am at my wits end. There is NO way I could have more than one! :-) really!

Here is a slightly-redacted set of email that went back and forth between me, Austin, who got a HHD pocketknife, and a non-FR email group. Austin is the treadhead colonel coming out of retirement for a six-month tour in an unfriendly part of the world.

Unless he's been lurking here, all he knows of the Hobbit Hole is what he's heard from me. So please forgive him when he calls us "my group. This note is really directed to all of us here.

---------------

Richard--

I'll have more on my active duty posting in a couple of weeks. The post will be called "Gather 'round, boys 3" --unless by then it's 4 or 5.

Gentlemen, the knife is fabulous. My wife asked me why the news media doesn't focus on Americans supporting our troops like Rick and his group. I had to tell her, dear, good stuff from pro-American Americans isn't news to the news media.

Austin

It's the best we could afford for our troops, sir. I wish we could buy body armor, tomahawks, secure radios, air conditioners, and big ticket stuff like that. But we do what we can with our money. The Hobbit Hole does more than just ship poagie bait and love. We also mail the troops tools to make life easier and safer, when we find the right stuff.

We're up to 129 knives so far, and my biggest fear is that the dealer will run out of them at that price. So I buy another dozen whenever I get money ahead. I'll have about 40 ready to go, but there's at least one platoon-sized shipment due out soon.

I hope you never have to use that knife for any serious business, but we already have feedback that those knives have saved two Americans, and one Iraqi.

-----Original Message-----

Rick--

Got your knife in the mail. It's superb. Thanks.

Austin

Try fandango.com - I think they're pre-selling tickets so they should have city listings. But I can't say for sure.

Fer some reason, Fandango said it wasn't playin my town. Thanks for the help though!

Well...I just found the site again where you can enter the town and the list of theatres come up. 2 theaters in my town are playing The Passion of Christ according to the official site. Yippee!

My phone number when I lived in Alvin was 585-2877. Saw that post number and it reminded me of it! Gosh, that's been over 22 years ago.

Ok...according to my tip calculator (that I have to use, because I'm a moron when it comes to such stuff), my $6 haircut would require $1.20 for a 20% tip. My $7 manicure would call for $1.40 tip at 20%.

I gotta tell you! My tip calculator is part of my new CELLULAR PHONE!! My mom added me to her plan and gave me a phone that my dad just couldn't figure out. Dad got a new one.

This phone has all the bells and whistles, very swank. It's a itty bitty thing! Only a little bigger than 4"! I have unlimited nights and weekends, but can only use it sparingly otherwise, because I'm sharing my parent's minutes. We have 1000 total minutes.

It looks just like this one, except it doesn't say Cricket on the screen.

My parents just worried all the time about me being out somewhere and breaking down. Or trying to get hold of me with me on-line. So they did this. I'm thrilled!
