The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Or is that a guy? It's rather androgynous. I'm confused.

It's Martina Navratilova. I wouldn't worry about her stealing Sam away from you, if you get my drift.

Navratilova looks as if she might need a moustache waxing once in awhile.
*shudder*

Is this a guitar you use sometimes and will miss, or is it just a dust collector?

It's one I use, though not as much as the mandolin. Guitar was my main instrument until I picked up a mandolin a few years ago. It's the nicest instrument I've ever had and probably ever will have...I've never played another guitar that felt and sounded as right for me as it does. It's also the first instrument I ever performed with. However, at this point I'm mostly just getting it out once in awhile to see if I still remember how to play those songs, and though it's a magnificent thing, it's true that it isn't getting used on a daily basis.

I think I'm going to give this a week...but it's not like I have much else of value! Most of my stuff is of the handed down three or four times variety. ;-) I wouldn't have it any other way, but I DO love and appreciate nice instruments, even ones I can't play all that well.

Rosie.... It sounds to me like something you should hang on to if there is any other way to solve the temporary need for money. You might miss it, or, you might sell it a few years from now because you have drifted further from it.

It is sortof like my saddle. I just sold my Stubben english saddle that I have had forever. I had to get a new saddle last year, not because the saddle was worn out, but because it didn't fit Bay properly and was soring him. I only could get a couple hundred for it, was never worth it to sell until I needed room on the saddle rack for ecurbh's new one!!

We'll see, I guess. Maybe I'll give it a little more time and try to think of something else. But there's nothing that could bring in the same amount of cash.

And I could always use part of the money to buy another guitar. It wouldn't be nearly as nice, but it would still be one to play for the times I get the urge.

Guess I'm not as convinced as I thought I was, though.

Hello all. How's everyone. It's been a while. I just got back from a 14 day road trip to Kuwait. Believe it or not the camps are much nicer in Iraq. We never thought we'd miss Iraq, but after a week there, we did. We went down to escort a new Air Force unit back to Mosul to work with us. Right out of the gate they got screwed by the Army with some pretty bad trucks. We ended up towing most of them back, and one was on fire as we drug it through the front gate. Wasnt their fault though. Trucks aside, they impressed me, as most of the trip was spent sleeping under the stars. They were real troopers with the conditions, although they did get a little scared in Baghdad when we got stopped for an IED. It was kinda fun to watch. We sat in the middle of the highway eating an MRE while they laid prone under their trucks ready to fight. No one told them too, they just did. There was also about 25,000 Marines on their way in. Most of them this was their second rotation in Iraq. g'nad, pay attention here while I say something good about your brothers. They impressed me even more than the Airforce. At one of the overnight camps we set up our cots for the night and prepared to sack out. I looked around and all the Marines were in their sleeping bags, asleep on a bed of rocks! That's hardcore. The scary part is they even looked comfortable. Any way, it was a long trip and I'm glad to be back. Look forward to chatting with everyone soon.

Hi! I thought for sure the thread was a goner.

There's a new virus on the network. Sigh.

LOL...no, I am here...just busy. Matthew is doing his language arts and I'm baking cookies. Joshua is vey busy playing hotwheels underneath the tree fort.

We had a great lunch. Baked fish in olive oil and butter, sprinkled with thyme. I had a salad and the boys had couscous with theirs and a stick of string cheese.
