The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I wouldn't call it horror, really. Just weird and creepy, like a ghost story.

Funny how I can have such trouble with imagination during the day if I try to write or anything...but the second I'm asleep it goes crazy. I have some VERY weird dreams. That's actually where I got the idea for the NaNo novel last year...or the year before, rather. Only the dream had a lot more action. Prolly shoulda stuck closer to that plot. As it was, it was wayyyyy too slow and then obviously rushed and illogical towards the end.

Did I call it or did I call it?!!You called it :) BTW looks like Alf is playing the part of Pennywise the Clown from It.

Ghost stories are horror enough for me! Seriously!

The minute this aardvark shows up with balloons, I'm changing the channel!

I usually don't try making stories out them, but I should try that. One time I did start writing down ideas as they came to me and it was sort of like I was dreaming while I was awake--story came out really weird.

This show is fairly cheesy enough to never be qualified as "scary".

Sorry to whine so much on thread...but this is the only place I CAN whine. ;-) Oh, believe me... I understand...
I can't even whine *here* about stuff, since I made the mistake of letting certain people know what my FR handle is. Dammit.

Well, I do have two years' experience already. I'm hoping to stay at least a little employed in grad school, plus grad school itself counts for just a little.
I don't know where I'll specialize for certain right now, but I think I'm more inclined toward design, rather than implementation. AI or HCI work, most likely; a lot of geeks don't seem to understand how 'real' people work. I don't know why real people behave the way they do, but I do know how they behave and what they don't like about computers.
One thing I'm really interested in is expert system development... it relates to what I'm doing now. We'll see. At any rate, with a doctorate I can at least teach!

The minute this aardvark shows up with balloons, I'm changing the channel!Well, at least he's not a clown--that would be too scary :) Okay, since you called the last one, time for another prediction: who's going to get it next? I would say Ed Begley Jr.'s future is looking short about now, except I can't see how they'd kill off such a big name so early. He's got all the signs of being next, though, so something's up. . .

I had the most vivid dream last night. It was like a movie, with touch added in. It was about, um, participating in a virtual reality Dungeons and Dragons type game. And then the Eeevil corporate people took the gamers hostage and we had to free them from inside the game.
It wasn't very logical, but it was so vivid! Wish I could do that in my stories.

Those guys were laughing so hard that what they were smoking couldn't have been just cigarettes. . .
To: Fedora
I dunno yet. What is up with the homeless people laughing? This is getting stupid.

Sounds like a cool dream! One time after playing a lot of Neverwinter Nights I had a dream like that :)
To: JenB
Yeah...I have some very vivid dreams sometimes, and they're so much better than anything I could write.
What's really cool is that I'm not always me in my dream. Sometimes I'm someone else entirely.
Speaking of dreaming, it's time for me to hit the hay.
Good night!

I think the homeless people laughing was supposed to be partly inside that doctor's head, from what I guessed, anyway. BTW that bald guy with the glasses Begley just walked away from seems familiar--where have I seen him?
To: Fedora
He's been in a lot of movies, but I can't place the name yet.
Oooooohhhh...the elevator scene got the story back on track...

What's really cool is that I'm not always me in my dream. Sometimes I'm someone else entirely. That happens to me, too. Coolest time was when I was Spiderman :)

Have a good night!
