Well folks, I'm going to head home and start packing up for Friday. I don't really have to finish packing until tomorrow night though, so maybe I'll just write a list tonight.

I am extremely upset. It just keeps restarting automatically...counts down 30 seconds on the black screen then attempts then fails then counts down again...

No...there all out. That was the first thing I did when I saw it had crashed...removed the Jumpstart preschool disk Josh was using.

Well, I'd say wait until someone like Rose shows up, she always seems to know what's going on... have you tried powering down completely, leaving it off for a few minutes, then restarting?

Sorry doll! Just catching up.
This problem is way over my head - ecurbh's not sure either. I would stop doing anything till you have qualified help.
Counting down and then shutting down sounds more virus-ey to me than mere software or hardware malfunction. If it is virus-caused, you may do more damage the more you allow it to run.
Aren't you using Windows XP? It has a 'system restore' function that might work here. It will take you back to some saved 'point in time' in the past, whenever it last did a save, daily or weekly or whatever... but I have never done it.
Tech support through the manufacturer? - Is it a major brand like Dell or Compac?

HP...got it from Walmart.
There is a system recovery. I get to it by quickly pushing f10 when the blue hq flasheds on the screen...but it says it will erase all my personal files and such if I use it..it asks "Do you want to run a system restore instead" and I say OK and it tries to start the system recovery and it takes me back to the black screen.

Just reading it now...but Rose is much more confident than I when it comes to remote advice. I like to be sitting at the computer before making any judgement calls!
You can't get into any form of safe mode? If you could get in that way, I would try uninstalling that game and trying again, but otherwise...you may be looking at doing a windows repair, something I couldn't tell ya how to do without trying it myself. Rose is the BEST at this stuff!
