The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Yeah, I know. And the HEB's where I used to shop have been replaced by bigger other ones too!

My beer joint is still there though.. .. different name... same place... looks the same.

I think you know we live not very far from the intersection of 183 & 620. There's now an HEB, a Super Wal-Mart, a Super Target, and a large mall all within 5 minutes drive of that intersection. Makes shopping very convenient!

Thank you so much! That looks like a much better recipe than the one I used from my google search. It was OB's turn to bring breakfast for his group this morning, and I thought those sausage/cheese balls would be good with little corn muffins and orange juice on a cold morning like today.

Since his group had never had yours, they thought mine were great (but I knew there was a difference!)

How was your trip?

Suzi, when's Clare going to get on and post?

I'm not sure! She was reading the thread today at my computer, but I don't know why she hasn't gotten back on on hers.

She received the Girl Scout Silver Award tonight! The Cadette troop had a nice reception for the girls who were in their troop last year, had bridged to Seniors and completed requirements for the award. After the reception, we and the family of her best friend (who had received HER Silver Award as well) went out to eat at our favorite Chinese restaurant. We had a nice time, then came home to watch "Monk". It's our favorite TV show!

Where the HEB is there at that intersection is not where it was when I lived there. I used to shop there when I lived out on Lake Travis. It was the closest grocery store to Hudson Bend. Now there's something right there at Lakeway - was a Tom Thumb, I think it's something else now. At Lohman's Crossing and 620.

But, back then, there was only a smaller HEB and a K-Mart at that intersection. The other 3 corners had nothing! It is a madhouse now! Then, it was WAY out in the country. Not even that many people lived in Cedar Park or Leander then! They were still both small towns out of Austin! Hard to imagine now huh?

Oh, and 620 was 2 lane most of the way to the lake. And we still drove over the dam to get around. There was only that small winding road with the low water crossing below the dam.

yeah yeah yeah... and i know... jill walked for miles in the snow to school - uphill both ways of course

Great news about Steve!

As folks have said, the Super Bowl is this Sunday, and the Patriots are in it. Everywhere you look around here you see the Patriot logo! Folks like that their 'home' team is in the Big Game.

There's a new HEB at 620 and 2222 now; one of the fancy ones. The Tom Thumb is probably a Randall's now; they came in and bought out all the Tom Thumb and Simon Davis stores.

The K-Mart at Lake Creek & 183 was one that got closed when the company went bankrupt a while back.

I wouldn't o' known what to do with an HEB so close to me back then! Gees, right on the way to Hippy Hollow huh? :-)

There wasn't a K-Mart at Lake Creek and 183 when I was there. But, my bridesmaid at my wedding to Myranda's dad lived about 5 blocks off 183 down Lake Creek. :-) She ended up divorcing the husband she had then and marrying one of my old boyfriends who also just happened to be the best man at my wedding to Myranda's dad! LOL I was her bridemaid at their wedding. :-D He lived down Comanche Trail just between Hippy Hollow and Windy Point.

*sigh* all that was so long ago.

Not very far from us!

By the way, do you know about the new toll road going in, Texas 45? It's replacing FM 1325 at I-35 in Round Rock... well, apparently the other end of it is coming out at 620 & Parmer. They have everything torn up there now; it looks like they're going to make 620 a six lane wide freeway from 183 heading east. Or maybe that's where TX45 is going to be, I'm not sure...
